Postby Nedo » Mon Sep 19, 2016 2:54 pm

An update has been released for download. Download size is aprox 10GB for the full installer.
Change log can be found here: http://www.prepar3d.com/latest-news/

Now it supports native the Rift and HTC Vive, wonder how this works compared to Flyinside.

I have tried my Dk2 with the new version of P3D. Its miles away from FI. Doesnt let you use your mouse, size is wrong ,etc... just a big list of things that only FI can do. Its Ok, it is smooth but thats it. Made me see how much Fly Inside has improved over a year and feel lucky that we have Dan constantly developing and adding features. Hopefully he will be able to take advantage of native support for P3D.

Even if X Plane supports VR in the future, hope Dan develops it.

Regarding usability I completely agree - a lot of missed frames - but the cockpit looks much, much sharper than anything I have seen with FI (using Vive btw). I suppose you can really use it for IFR that way. So I strongly ;) recommend looking into SuperSampling FI vs P3D "native support" of the vive. On some first tries I did not see any effect of the "renderTargetMultiplier" setting inside steamvr.vrsettings on the resolution of the P3D native VR. Saw no option to change VR resolution inside P3D either. Found some info about "renderTargetMultiplier" effecting resolution on reddit - referring to the tool RenderDoc to get more info about the "real" resolution passed on to the vive. Sadly, I have no time to check now, but here is the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/ ... ier_using/

I took the plunge and updated to P3D 3.4 but wished I'd held off until its supported by FlyInside. It didn't say anywhere that the native support is only a camera view so you can't interact with anything. Ah well, hopefully FI support will be released by the time I get all my addons installed.

Can anyone comment more on the increased clarity? Now that's something I'm hoping to emulate ;)

Hi Dan

It does appear sharper to me and for me it eliminated the flashes I am getting in FI. I flew the T38 around and it was very smooth. I could not assess the fps as I couldn't see the counter. I haven't updated my signature yet but I am now running a pascal titan. Your control/menu features on top of these visuals would be a winner I think.

VAS is also much much better with 3.4.9 compared to FI.
hopefully FI can take use of the new features to further improve its performance and usability.

The P3D VR is useless being just a camera view. I will stick with FI. Can't comment on VAS usage with their VR and if you mean Clarity as in better resolution, IMOP there is no improvement over FI.

I just had a quick flight with a new install of P3D with no addons. 3D VR definitely seems to run smoother and I would compare it with Aerofly FS2 in that respect however as Ridinroun has said, it's not much use just being a camera view. It will be interesting to see how well P3D 3.4 runs with FI in case there are other performance enhancing factors with the new build. As far as image quality is concerned, I didn't notice much difference except fewer double images when flying low level past objects e.g houses. I would say this is because of the higher FPS but then again, my install atm has no addons or ai yet. I had to uninstall FI as it didn't work with 3.4 (hopefully it will soon) so now I'm going to install all my ORBX and other addons which will probably take the rest of the evening.

Are you all using Oculus? I couldn't find any options in the views for Vive. I could get everything set up OK but if I tried to move the camera the view between each eye was no longer in sync. I didn't notice any improvement in clarity. It was also running at lower FPS than when I run FI.
