flight1 gtn 750 gps

Postby rossj202 » Tue Mar 21, 2017 7:14 am

Hi everyone
Just loaded flight1 gtn 750 gps into Alabeo PA44 as a pop up window. Very comprehensive menus and apps to learn , which are reasonably clear to read when running FSX stand alone. I wish I could say the same when viewed thru Oculus CV1. Almost totally unreadable I'm afraid, even when zoomed. Must be something about gps's in Oculus, they are all very average, whether pop up or embedded. I have really clear instrument gauges , especially in the PA44, so I think my general graphic setup and resolution is ok. Anyone want to make a liar out of me.

I wouldn't want to make a liar out of anyone, but I can report my own experience.

I fly P3D exclusively in my Rift via Flyinside. I use the GTN 750 in a variety of aircraft, always as a popup. The 750 is always very clear for me.
I run Flyinside at 5280x3264.

Hi Jim
Thanks for your reply. Although I can't comment whether P3D would make a difference, I was surprised to see your resolution of 5280 x 3264. This must surely be your triple monitor setup resolution, as flyinside max is 3840 X 2374 for the Rift, which I run at. I was even more surprised that you can run 3 monitors and leap motion. I'm struggling with one monitor and I disabled my leap. Is their a reason you still run 3 monitors , I'm guessing you must be running other software outside of Rift.

Hi Ross,

If you go into C\users\Ross\AppData\Roaming\FlyInside\settings_pro_FlyInside FSX_settings.ini, resolution can be changed. Here is a copy of the ones I've tried: Oculus Target Resolution = 5280 3264 //4800 2968 //5760 3561 //3840 2374

I had too many problems with Leap Motion in the past. It's in its box for now.

The resolution of my three monitors has remained unchanged since before VR. They run on a Matrox Triplehead Digital at 3840x1024, and I've become addicted to the generous amount of desktop space for other things.

Cheers, Jim

Very interesting Jim, Changed my resolution in the ini file as you said, to that below. Took a flight to make sure everything was stable, however no change to clarity of anything including Gps.

[Loading]
ForceVRMode = 0

[Graphics]
DX11 Adapter = NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 \\.\DISPLAY1
MSAA (Anti-aliasing, requires restart) = 4
DX9 Adapter = NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 \\.\DISPLAY1
Oculus Target Resolution = 5280 3264
Monitor Display FPS = 30
EnableFXAA = 0
LockSimulatorFrameRateRift2 = 1

Hi Ross,

I reinstalled Flyinside-FSX, set resolution to 5280x3264, and fired up FSX-Steam with the default Baron. To get the GTN 750 to work I had to install the older version of the Garmin Trainer.

The 750 was, perhaps, a very little less clear than in my P3D, but not much in it. I was, however, shocked at the reduction in clarity looking around in FSX-Steam, compared to what I'm used to in P3D.

Firing up P3D afterwards, I found the improvement in the outside view astonishing, with the 750 not much different. It's quite a long time since I ran FSX, and then I was in DX10 preview with all the necessary tweaks.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to help with your problem. It must be something to do with your system I think, for I can't replicate it here, and having used the 750 for about 16 months now, and with the Rift since last May, I haven't seen anyone else in your situation.

Good Luck, Jim

Thanks Jim, maybe P3D makes the difference. I just read the post by webmaximus which he put up yesterday and I agree with everything he said. Changing the resolution up or down seems to make no difference. What actually makes the most difference for me, is the particular aircraft. I have stacks of 3rd party including all the PMDG , but have found VRSimulations, A2A and Alabeo PA44 the best so far.

Hi Ross,

I did see that post, and he is obviously having that experience, and like me he is using P3D, albeit v2.

I am on P3D V3.4, and the readability of VC instruments varies with individual aircraft, but when I reduce the resolution in Flyinside I do see a difference. The lower settings make the instruments of any aircraft unreadable for me. The different experience of individuals is really weird, and we are all struggling with the basic poor resolution of the Rift.

Yes everyone does seem different Jim. I thought you might of overclocked you gtx 1080 but your spec list doesn't suggest it. I'm sure the next advancement in oculus might be everyone's best hope.
