PMDG Planes

Postby solarisfire » Sat Nov 05, 2016 2:45 am

I fly the 737-800 and the 777-200 from PMDG.

Both work well but there are definitely a bunch of switches and dials that don't work right with the vive controllers, I'll try and put a comprehensive list together at some point soon.

Hi all, I am considering buying this aircraft and I wanted to see if anybody is flying it with FI.

If yes are you flying it on XP10 or XP11? Is it working ok?

Cheers

Im considering getting the PMDG 737NGX package as well... and glad to hear the comments that it doesnt work with some controller movement.

Ive been using a Eaglesoft Citation X, and needing to use mouse click for everything in cockpit, while wearing Vive headset. Its kinda cumbersome but atleast it works. Leap motion support for 737NGX and the Citation would be great...but dreaming.....

PMDG 777-xxx and some minor suggestions

Postby Maximum102 » Tue Oct 24, 2017 9:22 pm

Using PMDG 777-xxx. I wish they could do something about the slider switches. Very unintuitive still, also the yolk axis using oculus touch is inverted. Pulling lowers the nose and pushing raises it. Soon I would like to give a comprehensive list of buttons we need to use to complete an entire "normal conditions" flight. Hopefully the developers can activate these buttons. Thanks!

PS. I would really love to fly this plane entirely using oculus touch controllers. If I may make a suggestion... For On/Off (or 2-mode) switches, just a simple point-to-highlight and click (interaction button) to activate/deactivate. For knobs and selectors, (point-to-highlight, hold click to confirm, then rotate axis left or right). The current implementation of throttle is great. The yolk control implementation is also good EXCEPT the axis is inverted as mentioned above. CDU control is a tricky one, but the slider switches need to go im sorry. Point and click would still be superior.

I find the PMDG 737 very flyable (but engines have to be already running). I find the engine start switches don't work, and the baro STD button cant be pushed. Otherwise I find every other switch/button I need to fly works fine
the PMDG 747 also works well.

However the 777 can not be flown with using the interaction dot (controllers). most buttons dont line up.

I fly the PMDG 737 and 747. Generally, they work okay.
BUT the mouse pointer always disappears from the Rift between 0:45 hrs and 1:15 hours into each flight. The aircraft can then only be controlled by switching to the 2D panels or via the sim window in the FlyInside Menu. It's very awkward and uncomfortable.
The mouse may eventually come back after another 1.5 hours. The interaction dot will quickly produce a CTD.

I invested in FlyInside and Leap Motion specifically to accomplish preflight and postflight flows and procedures in the PMDG 777. As mentioned above, the switch interface with touch controllers (as well as Leap Motion) needs a bit of work. I’m amazed that the whole virtual environment is possible but if we are going to operate in a virtual environment, the interaction needs to be more usable.
Sliders on two position switches don’t make sense. A simple touch and the position should change, like using a mouse click. Currently, I find an on off switch changes continuously along the slider. The final switch position depends on where you release your finger and that position may change AS you release your finger!
Sliders make sense for Airspeed, altitude, and heading. Unfortunately moving left on a slider should decrease a setting and I find it increases. Also, the speed at which a value changes should increase the further you are from the center of a slider. I also found the auto brake switch does not interact with LMotion.
It must be a daunting task developing such an amazing program and then troubleshooting how it interfaces with all the aircraft on the market...I don’t envy you. That said, in a training environment with study level aircraft, if the interface is cumbersome, training is degraded vs enhanced.
You’ve created an amazing piece of software. I look forward to a more usable interface with L Motion and touch controllers!

You have hit the nail on the head. There are so many add-ons and aircraft across all 3 sims and it's just not a simple case of implementing LM or touch to work with every single one. Dan has to first purchase the aircraft in question then set about getting the correct position of clickable areas and this is a huge task. I can't ask him to look at every aircraft but I'm sure he'll respond with input if you email him about specific one's. I cannot say it'll be quick or if he's not already working on it but it wouldn't hurt to drop a line and say hi ;)
