How does Oculus Touch work?

I have tried a few cockpits with Oculus Touch and FlyInside. I have found it to be hit and miss. Sometimes a switch will toggle sometimes I'm sitting there flicking away and nothing is happening.

In the PMDG 737 for instance I will place my virtual hand on the throttle and the hand clamps on it but when I try to move it I get a ghosted, grey version of the throttle move while the actual one just won't move. Which isn't very handy when you're about to take off or reduce thrust on landing.

Switches are more hassle than it's worth so I have reverted to going back to using the mouse as this is far easier. Are my expectations simply to high?

Is anyone having better luck than me and if so can you explain how you get it working so well please?
