FlyInside for P3Dv4 - Status Update

Postby admin » Wed Aug 16, 2017 9:40 pm

Hi All,

We've been making a lot of progress with P3Dv4. We have VR integration itself (stereo rendering, high-resolution rendering, head-tracking) working, along with our virtual window system.

The really good news is that we're already seeing significantly better performance compared to the built-in VR from Prepar3D. This may not hold true across all settings/configurations/systems, but on our dev machines, I'm getting 45-50fps FlyInside vs 30fps Prepar3D-VR on the same settings.

At this point, we have quite a few graphical glitches we're fixing up, and we're getting our interaction system fully interfaced with Prepar3Dv4. Given current status, we're hoping to begin beta testing in-earnest late August, with a product launch sometime in September. We're behind the schedule we originally wanted, but not too far behind.

If you're interested in reading the nitty-gritty about where our time has been going, check out the longer post here:

Thanks for the update Dan! Looking forward to the beta. The integrated VR in P3D just hasn’t cut it for me so I’ve been focused on XP lately.

Very great news! Always checked for news about P3D4-version. ;)
Do you announce the release via E-Mail too or do we just check the status here in the forum?

I'm very excited - had a flyinside-abstinence because upgraded to P3D4.
So I'm counting the days... :D :D

Read the full post and must say it is great to have you back on the forums and with such an informative post. Its hard to wait for FI P3Dv4 but I feel more importantly is the fear of FI not being able to work in v4 due to the changes made by LM has been calmed. By your post, over the past few weeks of bumping up against that glitch that was causing a road block, that fear would only be amplified had we known your team was staying stuck like that. So to have this post that things are on track and the light at the end of the tunnel looks bright will certainly help ease my concerns of "if" rather than "when".

Once again Dan, thanks for the detailed info on the state of v4 and all you and your teams efforts in getting it ready for release.

So, did the beta testing go as planned? Is the software still on track for release in Sept?

Thanks.....Danny

Had a couple of users start beta-testing this past week, very positive results so far (much smoother than "native" VR) :) We're opening up to a larger beta group this coming week, should still be on-track for a Sept release!
