Stuttering Mess

Postby rjsict » Sun Jan 07, 2018 6:45 am

Hi all,

I cannot get FI and P3Dv4 stable at all, doesn't matter what I try! Consistently getting 60+/90 in FI and head panning is smooth, however the sim is stuttering, just look down and watch the ground. That is the main issue alongside this rather frustrating flashing in the right display of the Rift CV1 which I believe is being worked on reading through this forum.

I CAN however get a beautifully stable and smooth experience using the P3D in built VR support although I suffer the standard left eye jitter when in Stereo so this makes VR unusable using the native support.

I have followed the FI setup guide but no amount of tweaking and testing improves the situation. To be clear I get a steady 60+/90 in FI but the SIM stutters.

I am connected to a 4k monitor at 3840/2160 @ 30Hz also, would this cause an issue?

Any advice or guidance to help me get FI smooth would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks

Russ

Cant you limit the fps in the P3D settings? Or disable ASW?

Hi

Yes I have tried limiting to 60fps, 50fps, 30fps with no success. FI shows the relevant FPS i.e. 50/90 however P3D is still stuttering. ASW is disabled in the FI menu. Interestingly, when I switched on to test, using a stock P3D aircraft it seemed very smooth. However with any add on aircraft I get the strange blurry egdes on the far left and right of the display and stutters.

It is odd as native VR support in P3D is near perfect apart from the jittery left eye which renders it useless for now.

Many thanks

Can you try and lower your settings in general and also especially AA and MSAA ?

I can report that I have exactly the same problem as the origonal poster. I have a simular system. I also get a smooth vr experience in the native P3D but also have the left eye issue.

I purchased the FSX version and then when I went over to P3D i purchased that version in the hope that it would be better. Really disappointed I did that but I suppose that's my problem. Once bitten etc......

Flyinside also takes many minutes to load. If I load using the normal P3D exe it takes 30 -40 seconds to load.

I've given up on Flyinside until a major update is implemented .

Cheers!

Is you sim loaded with addons mate ? Scenery and cpu intensive planes can take a long time to render. I don't really think this is a Flyinside issue as everyone would be saying this. Have you tried fresh vanilla installs of your sims ? A huge undertaking I know, but a fresh sim is like a breath of fresh air.

If you have Nvidia drivers 390.xx . Roll back the driver to an early 388.xx version. Also disable 'public beta' channel in Oculus if its checked as well as unchecking 'Rift Core Beta'.

There is a major issue with the 390 drives and the CV1. See here: https://support.oculus.com/

Wow, thanks for that info fenflame. I was getting terrible performance and trying many different fixes, but your solution cleared it all right up. Things are butter smooth now, even in a pmdg 737 at EHAM with full UTL traffic and lots of clouds in the sky.

Tony, I rolled back to 388.59. I also made the suggested changes in the Oculus client.
