Low framerates when using FI

Postby gaborsomogyvari » Wed Jan 24, 2018 5:26 am

Hi Guys,

I'm using the PMDG 737 on the latest P3D v4.1 with the latest drivers on a machine with a 8700k@4.7GHz and a GTX1070. When I'm not using FI, I get ~55-65 fps in regular airports and ~40-45 with more complex sceneries, according to the info presented by "shift+z". According to CPUID HWmonitor in this case there are several cores running on 100% (frame rate set to unlimited), GPU around 50-70%.
When I start FI without changing any setting (except for the window size, as without FI I run it at full screen windowed) I get max 40 at regular airports, but more likely ~30-35, and ~20-25 in complex airports, according to either "shift+z" or the numbers presented by FI (first part of 30/90 for example, the second number stays at 90 always). The more interesting thing is that in this case no CPU cores are running at 100%, the GPU stays in the same 50-70% range.
This doesn't seem to change if I fly day or night.
Is this normal, or am I missing something?
Please see my settings attached.

Your results are what I would expect both in and out of FI with that spec. running a PMDG aircraft. You can't read the % values and assume because they are less than 100 that it has more to give. There may be memory bandwidth issues. comparing how they run on a single display to a VR headset is like apples and oranges. The bottleneck doesn't have to be the processing power available or the GPU power available. If you had a 1080i you would probably see a gain of 10 to 15%. Unchecking the cloud reflections may give you a little. Also bring the shadow qualities down to medium and the shadow draw distance and uncheck volumetric fog in weather if its checked, that causes major slowdowns. Given the quality of display inside the headset, it doesn't pay to go too crazy with the settings as you don't really see any benefit. Once you get over 30/90 or so the experience is good. If you see the number on the right dropping then you are hitting processing limits.
