World Tour - Will I do it?

Postby Greyman » Tue Dec 05, 2017 5:22 pm

I'm just flying the second leg, Hobart to Christchurch, of a World Tour route that i found on the web, which is flyable in an A320, the FF A320 to be more specific.

http://flightsimulatorvirtualairline.we ... -tour.html

This tour has around 150 legs and as not all of the destination airports have ILS, like the first leg into Hobart, it looks like i am going to have to sharpen up my manual landing skills, as I will force myself to land, relatively safely, at each destination airport before progressing to the next leg.

I find myself wondering how far i can get and how long it will take me, if i do stick at it?

Your votes of confidence, or otherwise, would be interesting to see. :)

Edit: Well, i've just landed leg 2 safely, so anyone that had guessed at one, or less, flights will need to guess again. ;)
Legs 3 and 4 went pretty smoothly, although i did need to fly the Sydney landing manually, due to a rather oddly shaped approach into the runway, that probably resulted from my bad planning.
Leg 5, from Sydney to Brisbane has just gone like a dream, with the flight plan being spot on for a smooth fully automated landing. I know, the landings tend to be far less exciting than when you do it manually, but i got lazy and there will be plenty of landings at airports without ILS to go :)
Leg 6, from Brisbane to Rockhampton, was good and i got some rare experience of flying an RNAV approach and landed it fine manually. Apart from some help from the AT. :)

Sweet! I will have a look on that too! :)
Is there something similar for GA flying too?

Was all i could find on Google for a single-engine propeller aircraft, but if you move up to say an Aerobask 550NG, you might be able to cover more distance and in less time, per leg.

He did it or was going to do it in real life, so maybe he ran out of money, patience or time??

There are quite a few questions like yours on the web, but not really much by way of suggested routes. The big oceans appear to be a bit of a challenge, for aircraft with a relatively short range.

Do you also fly GA aircrafts? Maybe we could fly together once online with some peeps from the forum :)

What about this one?

It looks like a route from Australia to England and then back again, which might not technically be a round the world trip, but close enough and if you don't already have the Eclipse 550NG, i would certainly recommend it. The avionics, in particular, on the Aerobask GA aircraft are superb.

Although my flying time just recently has been more or less totally dedicated to the FF A320, albeit not yet in VR ;) , i have been known to fly GA and wouldn't be averse to some collective online flying, if we can sort out some mutually convenient times.

I have yet to muster the confidence to fly online via sites like VATsim or Pilot Edge though, as my ATC-speak is probably not yet up to it, so don't expect JonFly :)

Haha okay!
Tony and I managed to fly online together without any flying network. Like a direct connection...
No ATC, no rules... :D
