SkyMaxx Pro v4

Postby MartinW » Sat Dec 17, 2016 9:12 am

Out tomorrow...

Unfortunately the timing makes it feel a lot like an XP11 upgrade tax, but it's been a long time since v3 so I guess it's fine. 50% discount for existing v3 users so that's good.

SMP generally improves stock framerates slightly so with a bit of luck that trend will continue and it will be a good upgrade :)

Has anyone taken the plunge and bought this yet? Curious as to how it is with XP11 and VR?

You should better take a look at Xenviro. It is more expensive, yes, but this software really adds a lot to the immersion.
SMP is a big disappointment compared to that.

How does it behave with VR - for example does it improve frame rates or decrease them?

As an existing SMPro owner it's nearly 3.5x the price, but I have no problems looking if there are advantages. One advantage might be if they don't charge for upgrades too often for example?

It's good in VR, albeit the latest version (1.06) needs an update from Dan to work properly. I posted a link to 1.04 in the xEnviro thread the other day (http://forum.flyinside-fsx.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3733&start=30) which works pretty well, but even with issues it's miles ahead of Skymaxx Pro. I can't go back to SMP now. It also helps that the devs don't give off the impression of super defensive and resentful of their customers whenever somebody gives them any feedback and they've been improving the product a lot since release.
X-Plane 10.51 Steam (beta branch) - Windows 10 - i7 6700k - 980ti (reference, driver 375.63) - 32 Gb RAM - Saitek Trim Wheel, Throttle Quadrant, Combat Rudder Peddles, X-55 Throttle, MS Sidewinder FFB2, sad bank account.

I love SMP4, and do not think I could be happy with the 2D clouds of XE.

But, I hear that with the beta 16 the clouds are white any way, that is the only reason I bought SMP4, I did not like black clouds.

I get lots of beautiful dawn and dusk colors also.

The only downside, for some/not for me at all is that they don't extend out to infinity.
