The future

Just wanted to say what an amazing experience flyinside with the vive is. It completely changes the flight sim experience.

I was just wondering how your vive integration is going, and if you feel vive support will come out of beta soon?

I'm also very curious about future support with the vive motion controllers. Would a user be able to fully control the aircraft using them?

Thanks for a great product!

I'm glad you're enjoying it :) Working with HTC on the flickering issue still, once flickering is resolved I'll be able to bring this out of Beta very quickly. I can't give a timeline yet though.

While a user could, in theory, fly using the Vive controller only, I don't think it would be a nice replacement for a joystick/yoke. You'd have to hold it in the air, your hand could get tired, movement would be less precise without back-pressure, etc. My plan is that the user would hold one Vive controller to manipulate radios, autopilot, etc, and use the other hand to control flight axis with a traditional joystick. That said, it will be flexible so that users can try things their own way too ;)

This past Friday I made the switch from AMD 9590 to Intel 6700k and I now see the fickering everyone is talking about. The strange thing is I was not having an issue on the AMD based platform. Keep in mind still using my 980 gtx.

Current build,

CPU - Intel Core i7 6700k http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819117559
MB - ASUS Maximus VIII HERO ALPHA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813132699
RAM - G.SKILL Trident Z DDR4 3000 (32GB 2x16GB) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231974
GPU - MSI GeForce GTX 980 GAMING 4G http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127834
Cooler - Enermax Liqtech 240 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835214058
PWR - EVGA 850W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817438018

Of course using an SSD for boot and have terabytes of storage :). I am trying to figure out what is causing the black flickering when moved from AMD to INTEL. Very strange.

Now that you mention it, a lot of these reports are on i7s. Maybe that's a clue, trust me, I'm looking!

I'll just throw out there that I experience the flickering on my i5 6600 too. Not always, just if the frame rate drops too low (and I haven't looked to see where that threshold is).

To provide more feedback -

I've had some interesting experiences as of late. First, I've spent a decent chunk of change on the Orbx sale, and for some reason I get better fps since using their region packs (not sure why that is, since the graphics are infinitely nicer looking and more realistic). Throughout various flying experiences since adding these packs, I've noticed the black flicker is not necessarily dependent on frame rate. Usually, as my frame rate gets close to 30 or so, the flicker begins happening. But oddly enough, I experienced the black flicker the other day even though my framerate was up in the 70's. Really odd.

Then, I was flying somewhere (don't remember where), and my framerate dropped down to 17. And no flickering, none at all. It was really weird, because I hadn't experienced low frame rate with FI before without the black flicker. I checked the fps panel and couldn't believe what I was seeing (expecting black flicker at or below 30 fps).

Really weird stuff. Seems like it is usually directly related to fps, but my above experiences suggest it may be something else. Anyways, hopefully this info is somewhat useful in your troubleshooting. It really is an incredible experience, and now with several Orbx regions, the places I'm flying look almost identical to their real life counterparts, even with so many of the settings turned down. Easily my favorite experience in VR so far, good luck Dan!

Kinda feeling super lucky right now...

OK maybe Dan needs to look and see if it's an NVIDIA thing ? Because AMD gpu seems stable?

For what it's worth, I'm on an i5-4460, 16GM RAM and an Nvidia GTX 970 and haven't experienced any flicker. I haven't loaded up any locations beyond the Friday Harbor, but I've gone through quite the selection of planes.
