Display Driver Has Stopped Responding

Postby Flightismylife » Mon Jun 20, 2016 1:18 am

So I made a post earlier about the black flashes and lag, and was incredibly pleased to discover a fix that worked entirely, and now when I load up a plane such as the PMDG 777 in max resolution and settings, it runs smoothly and with ease. A new problem has come, and one that I again cannot seem to fix no matter what I try. After loading up inside a plane, between 2-5 minutes after I load up and get moving the display driver "stops responding" and fsx hangs entirely, the only fix for which is ending FSX altogether. I have tried the following: both min and max settings on FSX and FI, uninstalling and reinstalling my Nvidia drivers, changing the priority of FSX and the VR processes to realtime, etc.. It happens without fail every time, the display driver crashes.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Flightismylife

The error message points to the driver, doesn't it?

I guess it's not a problem of the FlyInside side (sic).

The problem only arises with FlyInside on, any other case I can run FSX without any problems.

Are you using what some utilities for overclocking video card ? If so, try to disable them and run the card as usual.
FlyInside can not be the cause of your problem . Just a FlyInside load on the graphics card more and she can not cope with the task .

You might want to add your specs to your signature. It makes troubleshooting easier and less guesses.

Are you running FSX boxed or Steam Edition? Any beeps from your computer before it locks?

Steam Edition has much better memory management. Boxed can run out of memory easily depending on your system and add-ons.

There is a FlyInside crash log that would really help Dan. Other posts here tell you where to find it.

My apologies, my specs are as followed: NVIDIA GTX 980 x2 (SLI Disabled), Intel i5-4690K overclocked, 16GB ram, FSX is on a 1TB HDD, H110i CPU cooler, Gigabyte Z97X motherboard. I am running the steam edition of FSX, and my OS along with all my drivers is practically a clean install. There are no beeps or warnings, RAM usage at the time of each crash is around 1.8 GB from FSX, and CPU usage lingers around 40%. I have attached two error reports from it happening, and will answer any questions if needed. FlyInside is the only program that prompts this behavior, I'm just curious if someone can identify the cause so I can go about fixing it.

Thanks,

Certainly not an expert on these things but the last thing in the first file before it looks like it dies is a call to an Oculus renderer but you are posting in the Vive forum.

Do you hav a Vive or Rift, or both? And if both is the Rift plugged in? Plugged into the same card or different cards?

I only have a Vive, I don't know why that's there. Only someone who has developed the software can weigh in on the significance of that I suppose.

EDIT: If you look up past the end of the document there are other times it calls the Oculus thingy and it does it successfully, so I imagine that's not the problem.

Flightismylife, could you shoot me an e-mail, dan@flyinside-fsx.com linking this thread? I'd like to look into this bug.

Just as a side-note, the "Oculus" text is a red herring. Certain filenames retain their heritage despite not being Oculus specific, I started writing FlyInside back with the DK2 ;)
