Flickering Update 2 - SteamVR Beta Potential Fix Available!

Postby admin » Tue Jul 12, 2016 10:10 pm

Hi All,

Valve just posted a new SteamVR Beta, which should revert the change which caused the flickering issue. Could those of you who started experiencing flickering with the most recent SteamVR update try the following?

1. Opt into SteamVR Beta, instructions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamVR/comments/4fi20t/where_can_i_opt_in_for_the_steamvr_beta/d2913y8
2. Allow SteamVR to update
3. Check whether the beta solves the flickering bug for you?

Note, you will probably want to set SteamVR to Direct Mode (if it isn't already), and check the checkbox in SteamVR Settings for "Allow Always-On Reprojection"

Please report back here with your findings, and let us know if the new SteamVR resolves or improves the black flickering bug. This info will be super helpful to Valve going forward :) The more detail the better

NOTE: For those of you with NVIDIA 10xx GPUs, there is also a driver bug in play with the latest driver update. Take a look here: http://forum.flyinside-fsx.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2428 This is a separate problem from the SteamVR bug

Not sure what detail to add. I fired up a saved flight where I was getting lots of black flickers and not a single one while it's been running. Some judders but I had those before. Very slight but this is the Carenado Shrike at Harvey Field with lots of other planes, grass, buildings, etc.

It seems to be working fine now at least for me.

Jddlites, did you make sure to re-enable always-on reprojection? Also, you may need to down rev your Nvidia driver. We got hit with two issues if you are running a 10 series Nvidia GPU.

Cool, glad that fixed it. I'm going to guess you've always had the side to side issue and I'm pretty sure it's been reported a fair amount. That seems to be the first symptom of a system that is having a hard time keeping up. Can you edit your signature to have your specs in it? Makes it really handy for others to easily see if there might be a potential issue.

Can't really say more without knowing where you are system-wise. Also, have you run the SteamVR performance test? If so, can you post the results? I'm thinking it's just a system performance issue that may take a video card or other system upgrade to fix. Sounds like you're close though. Other than that there are all the other things to check like processes that don't need to be running, loading it down with aftermarket planes and scenery, etc.

Sorry for the slow reply, been flying in VR for the last 5 hours :/

Working absolutely perfectly.

PMDG 777 flawless.
F-22 Flawless.
Beach Baron flawless.

Then I installed Orbx Global, still flawless.
Enabled Active Sky Next, flawless.

Loving it :D
