Flyinside + P3D friendly aircraft

Postby Tedmax » Thu Jul 28, 2016 7:13 pm

Hi,

I got my Vive yesterday and like others it is an amazing experience. I like to fly the Carenado C90 in P3d 3.3 but the white text in the cockpit shimmers badly making it pretty much unflyable. The Lockheed AC are fine, like the Baron with the G1000. A2A are also bad with respect to shimmering. The interior modelling is excellent though. So is there anything I can do about the shimmering? If it was a choice of only flying the Baron and Flyside against any plane with three screens, I would choose Flyinsde still...

If others have the shimmering with Carenado, have they had better experiences with different AC?

And if I may, one last question:
Has anyone got a workflow for IFR flight - like popping up screens etc to set the AP? Eventually, I will re-install VoxATC and need to set altitudes/heading/speed as directed by ATC.

Thanks everyone

Out of curiosity, I have to ask, what do you mean by "shimmering"? Is it some kind of graphical effect added for "realism" that doesn't work in VR? Is it like bloom?

I have A2A's T-6 Texan and their Comanche, but no VR headset yet. Looking at buying a Vive after a week of "thinking over a big monetary decision".

In AC other than the Lockheed ones, white text and the white lines that surround them appear on the panel to walk like ants - the white lines instead of being solid are like dashes that go clockwise then counter clockwise depending on the orientation of the head. If you have ever used Photoshop its like when something is selected which is commonly referred to as walking ants.

I have AA on max, texture on max but NV at default. I don't use NV inspector. The rest of the cockpit in Carenado and A2A are beautifully rendered - the 'oh wow' experience. I am not sure if there is a setting I should use. At a loss really

I am guessing that AA is somehow not working even if I force it in NV control panel. I have reached this conclusion because the Flyinside windows in the menu before entering P3D have jagged lines.

I have never tried DCS before but I downloaded it to see if it was an AA issue across all programs. Nope. Beautifully rendered and the text on the test AC panel was readable even without magnifying. In addition, the menus in DCS were very clear - much clearer than P3D. It's like Flyinside is running with every graphic setting at minimum.

I have the latest NV driver for the 980ti and the latest SteamVr beta.

If anyone is using the Carenado A36 that comes with P3D and is having no issues with 'the cockpit text can they reply so at least I can continue to dig?

After spending a few hours trying to find a solution, I have settled on a work around of sorts. I loaded up NV inspector and set 8xS, Trans Multisampling Enabled, 2xSGSS which was the best compromise between the white text flicker and frame rate. I think I am even considering a Titan now :o

This is a really interesting point... It seems that certain third party aircraft are somehow disabling MSAA? I was thinking that MSAA was simply ineffective with them, but I'm wondering if it actually is a graphical glitch. Will investigate :)

I have the shimmering and ants issue as well around the instruments as well as the menu in Flyinside. Its unusable as it stand today. I have the 980 and I7. It is amazingly smooth however. It works amazing but with the shimmering all the instruments and labels are blurry. I cannot read anything at all. Will inspector help out? If so what are they?

This bug should be fixed in FI 1.62 :)

It is certainly fixed. Thanks so much Dan.

As for my own workflow question about tuning the radio and interacting with various instruments, I am now using Pilot2ATC as a window inside the cockpit and using the voice commands for ATC. I was using VoxATC and the GTN750 up until P3D v3.3 but I couldn't get VoxATC to work in 3.4 so I have switched to Pilot2ATC which is in active development at the moment.

If you are looking for a VoxATC replacement or want to try talking to ATC why not give Pilot2ATC a try - there is a free trial.
