Supersampling and SteamVR settings

Postby seb » Mon Aug 08, 2016 12:20 pm

Hi,

I wonder if the
Code: Select all
"renderTargetMultiplier" : x.x

setting inside the config file "steamvr.vrsettings" somehow influences the resolution settings inside flyinside or its performance?

Does flyinside override this setting? Clash with these settings? I couldn't really see any impact.

I saw different behavior of different games:
Elite seems to use its own SS settings while the settings from steamVR are effictive as well. Therby the SS through steamVR is supposed to be more efficient?
RawData appeared to get "confused" by steamVR SS, which resulted in bad performance...

Cheers,
Sebastian

I would also like to know a bit more about this. Using this setting on Elite and Ping Pong Waves makes a big difference to the image quality of those games. On FI it doesn't seem to make any difference. Any ideas?

There is a new version in beta testing. Dan is continuously working on improvements for FlyInside.

My understanding though was that supersampling is not necessary as you get the same result from increasing the resolution from within FlyInside

Stewart: Huge update incoming, it will be released next week :D I was planning on releasing it this Friday, but we had to move offices this week which introduced a delay. Check out the twitter, I'll be posting features under development from time-to-time https://twitter.com/FlyInsideFSX

As for renderTargetMultiplier, FlyInside ignores it to use its own resolution. I'll experiment with the Steam one, but what FlyInside does with "FlyInside Settings -> Resolution" should be identical. Just adjust there :)

Ok, thanks for the clarification!
And nice to hear about the new release coming soon :) I guess I have to get my credit card and upgrade the trial...

It might be worth taking a look at the renderTargetMultipler. From what I read on the Elite forums it gave better performance than Elite's own in-game SS option.
