Vive Pro and MS Flight Sim X Steam Edition

Hello All,

Just tried out version 1.95 on Flight Sim X Steam edition with the Vive Pro and had a great time! The head tracking feels perfectly solid and I noticed way more detail and clarity of both the instruments and the terrain with the improved resolution of the Vive Pro compared to the Rift. I used the default game graphics settings Flyinside set during installation which have the aircraft details set low but the terrain, weather, and water set high. The Flyinside graphics settings are set to 3024x1680 and MSAA 4x. I also have a couple of the game add-ons like Natural Tree Environment X and HD Airport Graphics which helps the realism a bit. I could probably turn up a couple more graphics settings although it is playing so smooth and looking so good as-is I will enjoy it like this for a while.

After sitting in many VR cockpits there is no way I can go back to flatscreen cockpit sims and have near the fun and immersion. Gems like Flyinside-FSX that allow you to play your favorite sims in VR are very welcome indeed. Thanks again for your hard work on this devs! :)

VR and flight sims is a very powerful match.

Ufortunately for those of us with the Vive Pro or Samsung Odyssey, FlyInside still displays at the Vive/Rift resolution.

If you try a flight sim with native support - X-Plane, P3D, or Aerofly FS2 - you can really see what the Vive Pro can do in a flight sim. It’s amazing.

Dan doesn’t seem to be doing much to support FlyInside any more as he works on his flight sim. It’s been months since the Pro came out but all we got was a couple of excuses and bupkis.

X-Plane has a free demo where you can see what the Pro/Odyssey look like when properly supported. Laminar has good enough VR support that you don’t even need FlyInside now unless you need some of its unique features.

FS2 is the absolute best VR graphics but it’s $60 and a dead world with static weather, no AI, no multiplayer, and no ATC. But you should see what it looks like on the Pro. If you think FSX looks good with the Pro, FS2 will knock your socks off.

P3D looks stunning in native VR but it takes a powerful system to run well. But if you have such a system, the Pro is like getting new eyes.

But if you like FSX with FlyInside and the Vive Pro, there is a lot more fidelity available in other sims that actually properly support the Vive Pro/Samsung Odyssey resolution. Dan seems to have lost interest in FlyInside or supporting it. Updates get promised and time goes by. It’s sad because it was good software.

Our best bet now seems to be adding our voices in the support forums for P3D and X-Plane to get the features we want into native support for VR. FlyInside can still be handy for some features but when you see what flight sims can look like, you won’t go back.

Another one that has a free demo that properly supports the Pro (not sure about the Odyssey) is DCS (Digital Combar Simulator).

It has a recon P-51 where you can see the difference proper support makes.

Only thing is once you see the non-blurry world at Pro resolution, it will spoil your enjoyment of FSX with FlyInside until or unless updates it for the Pro/Odyssey.
