FSX-SE in the Rift

Postby jimh20 » Thu Jun 09, 2016 7:07 am

Hi,
When the latest update to P3D was not compatible with lots of my addon airports I thought I'd have a second look at FSX-SE.
I've got FSX-SE running in Flyinside with resolution set at maximum in both (thanks to Jim Rooney). I'm finding it very comparable to P3D but I have a couple of oddities.
1. When an AI aircraft comes within range there is no sign of the aircraft itself, but an absolutely gigantic label fills the sky!

2. There is no visible scenery popping in FSX-SE, but I've found that flying at around 500ft or less, past a yacht marina I know well, the marina is empty. A swoop down much closer sees it suddenly filling with pontoons and yachts. These are probably as small details as you would notice, but a similar flyby in P3D has these details visible as soon as the marina itself can be seen.

I can get rid of the labels of course, and marinas are not the be all and end all of flying. Otherwise, I'm really impressed with FSX in the Rift, especially as I can turn up the settings much higher than in P3D. I would like to eliminate the above two though!

I find FSX performs better for me too, I do miss the cockpit shadows though!

I think the 'popping' issue might be fixed by adjusting the LOD radius in your CFG file. Fixing this (I think mine is set to 6.5) resolving some issues I had missing objects that were mission objectives.

Thanks, Bruce. I'll try increasing the LOD. Have you seen the huge aircraft labels yourself? I'll just switch off labels.

Do you have the GTN 750? I'm about to start a thread about it.

Cheers, Jim
