How Does One Adjust the Zoom Level with FlyInside and Oculus

Postby MikeT707 » Thu Jul 07, 2016 11:52 pm

I am hoping to get some assistance. When I start up FlyInside/P3D, I am not able to adjust the zoom level. On a monitor we can all do this by using the "-" key to decrease the zoom and the "=" key to increase the zoom. Does anyone have any ideas on how to adjust the zoom level within a FlyInside/P3D setup?

In settings within flyinside you locate the binocular zoom function and assign it a button press on your joystick :) works a treat.

I tried that and that works. Thanks. Also, is there a way to set the initial zoom with a different value. Currently when I look at the screen on my monitor that displays what I see in the Rift, the zoom is set at .26 and I would rather have it set at a different value such as .50.

Might be a way to individually set the value ? I'll take a look in the config later or Dan may see this and give you a direct answer ;)

Why do you want a different value? It only causes distortion of the virtual world when you turn your head. There is only one correct setting for each type of HMD, and Dan has got it right as it is. Use temporary Binocular Zoom instead.

Thank you for your help and I look forward to hearing back. This will be important as a user's preference might be to have a different setting other than default, so this would make the FlyInside software more flexible and user configurable.

The FlyInside software is already extremely flexible and user configurable. This however is a setting you don't want. Setting the zoom level to anything but the appropriate value for the HMD causes warping of the scene whenever you turn your head. This would make the majority of users very nauseous, and something you don't want user configurable. Dan already made a function to temporarily zoom in. The default should stay as it is. I'm usually all for options and configurability, but in this case you are wrong, MikeT707.

Looking at this I'd agree with Axel (Sharkku). With the binocular zoom Button set if you have a rotary knob or spare slider then you can set the different zoom function up. This works perfectly for ultra zooming in.
