Oculus 1.9 update - massive frame rate drop

Postby theother1 » Fri Oct 14, 2016 11:52 am

Today Oculus automatically updated to 1.9. After launching FlyInside/P3D, I had a massive frame rate drop. At least 40% from what I had yesterday.

With Aerofly FS 2 I didn't notice any issues.

I spent all week (bought P3d and Oculus a week ago) tweaking everything to perfection and reached excellent results. Now it's all gone...

Anyone else noticing a performance hit after the 1.9 update. I can't say what's causing this. Will need more time to investigate...

sorry, just registered. Added my signature.

I noticed by setting the frame rate to unlimited I got my usual frame rate back. Reducing it to 20 or 30 fps has a 40% performance loss.

In a very dense scenery (UK2000 EGLL) with a few ORBX I get now 16/94 with unlimited. When I set it to 30fps I get only 10/94fps.
16 is "just ok" for a dense area. 10fps is where the fun stops... :)

Settings: 3840x2374, low speed, Shimmer reduction ON, FXAA OFF (too blurry in PMDG), FOV overdraw 130%
P3D: FXAA off, MSAA 4 samples, Anisotrop 4x, Texture medium 1024x1024, VSync Off, Target frame unlimited (before was 30fps)
Tessellation Enabled

Terrain: High, High, 5m, 30cm, land detail ON
Scenery Objects: Very dense, Norm, Norm
Special FX Low
Dyn Ref Off, Shadow Quality medium, enable terrain to receive
30000m 30000m 3000m, int veh+ext veh + SimObject all Cast & Receive
Cloud 90mi, max (AS 2016)
Aviation Traffic 0, Land Sea Traffic 0

Thanks for the great work! I love FlyInside. Came back to sim flying after a 10 year break because of VR!

At this stage I only wanted to check if other people have issues with Oculus 1.9...

Yeah after I activated ASW, it has been unplayable for me.. I used Flyinside every day, but now I haven't touched it for a week.. I'm waiting for Dan to release a new version.. Not playable now at all..

Well disable ASW then ? It's a future feature that Dan will be working on. It's not even released to the masses yet. It's only enabled for developers. What with Dan working on X-plane you may be waiting a bit.

As for the frame drops, you get higher on unlimited because the GPU will be "hunting" to get stability for you. When you cap it you cap that ability. Do me a favour and start with everything at the lowest. Try seeing what the fps is? Then work upwards slowly until you hit your sweet spot with addons and fps ;)

I feel like the sim is smoother in 1.9 actually.

Make sure that PCI Gen 3 is enabled on your motherboard. That will fix your problem!

thanks Mich. I tried it and it made no difference.

In fact, I think I'm back to my old frame rates by just making sure I have fps set to unlimited.

On a different note (and this has nothing to do with FlyInside), I have a lot of disconnection issues with the headset and sensor since 1.9! It happens all the time. This is not fun! This never happened before 1.9 in my case. When it happens you usually have to quit the app and start again. This is bad....

I found this on the Oculus forum that might help mate = loads of posts over there with issues. :( =

I had a problem with oculus sensor not being detected and I did all sorts of stuff including redownloading the oculus software and trying to repair it, changing usb ports, to going into regedit and making changes.

I noticed the oculus sensor was in the device manager under other devices tab. Which I took as it wasn't picking up the drivers for it for some reason. I tried updating, disabling, and uninstalling. It seems the problem is windows is not picking up the drivers for some reason.

If you go to oculus sensor and select update driver software, then select browse my computer for driver software. I found the drivers in the c:\program files>Oculus VR runtime drivers>Drivers>Rift Sensor.
