GPU load at maximum?

Postby jimh20 » Wed Nov 30, 2016 9:32 am

Hi,
I've been posting in the "ASW?" thread among others. While some can disable ASW and regain their 90fps in Flyinside I'm stuck with a maximum of around 60fps, and need very low P3D settings to attain even that.

I've just installed Process Explorer and used it to check the load on CPU and GPU while running P3D and Flyinside. Still using the very low settings I've been describing Process Explorer shows my 1080 running flat out, while my 6700 has room to spare. There is no headroom for the 1080 to stand an increased load if I try my previous high settings which gave me 29/93 in Flyinside and smooth as silk flying. I'm now assuming this is why I can't recover from ASW as othere can.

Could anyone suggest why my 1080 should be so overloaded, or what I can try to recover my previous performance? I'm at a total loss! :(

Thanks, Jim

Jim that is strange, maybe hook up with Dan sometime and debug this > PM him and try to set up some time with him ?

I would be interested in the results mate.

Hi Tony,

I've driven myself nuts over the last few days, but having seen the 1080 running at maximum, I tried a change of graphics driver from 375.86, back three times to 372.90.
The best news at last!! :D

I have the registry hack set to disable ASW. I simply fired up Flyinside into P3D, loaded a flight at EGPF (my local airport), settings "Very Very Very Dense", and Flyinside showed 30/90, steady as a rock while I climbed to 3000ft, circled around and descended down the ILS.

I can't say how relieved I am, and I hope this post might help someone else struggling with the problems surrounding ASW right now.

Cheers, Jim

Hi Tony,
Here is a copy of the url where all the hack details reside. I haven't tried anything other than FI/P3D, sorry.

https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comment ... w_through/

Copy of above from Reddit:

>>Edit: Simpler (updated) installation courtesy of /u/phoenixdigita1:

I updated the steps to make it even more clear :)

If people don't know how to use regedit just copy the contents of the text from this link to a file with the extenstion .reg

http://pastebin.com/XkSKM8FE

Open up notepad and copy the contents of above URL to it.
Save it anywhere to a file called oculus-asw.reg
Find the file with file explorer
right click it and select "merge"
Accept all the warnings
All done

To turn it off change

"AswEnabled"=dword:00000001

to

"AswEnabled"=dword:00000000

in the same .reg file and repeat the steps 3-5<<

To disable ASW, I simply used regedit to reach the key (HKLM\Software\Oculus VR LLC\LibOVR), and changed the end 0 to 1, and ok.

Good Luck, Jim

Not seeing any improvements this end mate ? As for DCS, they have done a great job and this works amazing now.

Hi Tony,

Did the hack disable ASW for you without needing key presses? Your system is very similar to mine, so I would have hoped what I did would work for you.
I don't have DCS to compare. Is DCS something I could fly when I haven't time to organise a "planned" flight in P3D?. If so, I might get it as a fun VR alternative.

Does reverting to FlyInside 1.62 fix the GPU load issue for you? If so, it's a bug I'm already working on :)

Hi Dan,

Reverting to 1.62 gave me a sort of halfway improvement. Keeping 1.62 and reverting my Nvidia driver to 372.90 restored me to 30/90 with dense settings in P3D.

Cheers, Jim
