supersampling Rift

Postby cgwilson » Mon Mar 13, 2017 11:34 am

Hi

I see a few people having issues with reading text or dials so I thought I would paste this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGjk27KByLc

I find it excellent - easy to use and free!

I can't get an increased pixel density in FI using the tray tool. The overlay says that the PD is 1.19 whatever I set the tool too. Are you having any luck?

Do you use it at the same time as FlyInside?

If so, what resolution are you running in FI? What Super-Sampling factor are you using in the Tray Tool?

Are you getting a performance hit and if so, how much?

I gave this a try myself. I can use SS of 2.0 in the Tray Tool with full resolution in FI with Rift CV1 and I get negligible, if any, FPS impact. I believe the resolution is increased in the sim, but it isn't revolutionary for me. I'll stick with it though.

increased resolution?
More pixels?
All done with software !
Sounds like snake oil. :)
Adding a Gaussian or unsharp filter ( super sample) does NOT increase resolution.
Maybe it might look "clearer" to some, but the number of pixels in the CV1 remains the same.
You can do this in Photoshop.
Don't confuse this "super sampling" with resolution.
Both the current Rift and FSX are set as far as the number of pixels that can be displayed.
All this "density" stuff is ridiculous and utterly non scientific claptrap.
Pixels remain where they are and at the same number.
They don't somehow increase in certain areas or can be multiplied by software.
We must wait for more hardware advances before resolution will actually be increased.
