Demo version question

Another newbie question here so please go easy! I am testing out my new Oculus Touch with the demo version of FlyInside and the demo version of X-Plane 11.
Will these give a full experience for at least one plane type? I have tried a few planes and I either can't let the brake off or I can't steer! I feel like I've regressed to second grade, but I am wondering if it's a software limitation or a complete user error. If there is an absolute beginners guide to just trying before buying I would be happy to be directed to it!
For someone completely new to VR and new to flight simulators and fly-inside I must admit it seems harder than I expected just to get the programs installed and figuring out which one to crank up first!
