Can everyone post photos of what they are seeing so we can compare?

As said above, this is only observable on the Rift. On the monitor it looks fine.

I do not know if we have something in common. My config is on my signature. I am using 378.92.

Do you guys with the same problem mind attaching some photos (taken with phone through rift lens) showing the issues you are seeing? I want to make sure we are all having the same issue. Once we compile some data we can start narrowing down why some people have it and some dont. Also we can work towards a solution. Thanks everyone.

So in my quest to solve this maddening issue, I took all the cloud .png files and ran them through a quick, crude dithering in Photoshop elements. This fixed the issue. There is no more banding at all with the clouds at night. The clouds look weird in a new way now obviously because the dithering was done quickly and I actually barely had any idea what I was doing, but I think I proved that theres something up with the cloud textures as seen through the rift on my system.

If this helps anyone smarter than myself track anything down, or if anyone with a larger grasp on what dithering is actually doing and why it would be beneficial, please let me know. Thank you.

I tried, but it didn't work well, the pictures were rubbish.

Bringing up a older thread, no sense making a new topic. I'm seeing basically the same thing. The sky / ground banding at night is "horrible" through Rift, but looks absolutely fine on the monitor, and I have 4 different monitors here to try. Running latest Xp11, beta 05r1. All settings back to defaults in Flyinside as well as deleting output/preferences in Xplane. I do have Xenviro, tried with it on and off, makes no difference.

There's banding that extends out all around the aircraft at ground level, and in the sky. It's like there's a circle, "cylinder" around the aircraft where everything is fine, and then varying degrees of banding radiate out beyond the "inner circle" that the aircraft is in. It totally ruins any attempt at night flying, yet is fine through a monitor, meaning, the effect is not present. Rift is a week old, and fine under all other programs, so it's not a Rift issue.

Edit: Now that the sky is pitch black it looks fine. Still doesn't explain why at dusk the Rift shows band banding that's not visible on a monitor.

Yes I have the same exact problem. I've spent a week trying to figure this out. Nothing helps and I've given up on trying to fix it

I did not read every single page of this thread but did you guys try to set up a new instance of x-plane from the scratch through the installer?

Does this also happen with the demo of XP11?
