Oculus Controller Hand Scaling Explanation?

Is there an explanation or manual update that explains the interaction between the 3 hand scaling functions and the feedback options for the Oculus Rift Touch Controllers?

I am curious what the difference between the Distant and Close hand scaling is they seem the same to me, almost redundant?
