HTC Cosmos: How to Use Knobs (MD82)

I'm the (happy?) owner of a HTC Cosmos, which is available since yesterday.
The disappointment started almost immediately, worst thing is that I can't find a way to fully use the knobs in the MD82: I'm able to turn the heading knob, but I simply don't find a way to push it (to activate HDG SEL). For the altitude knob, it's the other way around with the same controller action I use for the heading knob: I'm able to pull the knob, but fail to turn it to dial in an altitude. The key bindings withing FI don't seem to work correctly and do not apply to my issue anyway (I guess).
Is there anyone here who knows what to do...?
