Runway Light gaps?

For example, while flying an approach, the runway may only have a dozen or 18 runway lights visible on each side. They are down the entire length of the runway, but the gaps between lights are very large. As you get very close, about 1/4 mile, they start to fill in. It is very strange to see them pop into existence to fill in the gaps in between.
I have noticed the effect with stock P3D and ORBX Global too. Does anyone else see this?
