ATC window

I've been getting back in to Xplane after a while off, since my last outing native VR has arrived for Xplane 11. I still prefer FI really, but the only thing currently i'm struggling with is the ATC window.
In native just push of a button its comes up in VR, in FI i have to set it as a window and then import it. But its' a little hit and miss as to weather it reappears when i close it down and open again, some times it doesn't come back; have to "import" it again.
Any tips for making this a little smoother, if there is someway to just bring this automatically into VR without having to "import". I also find importing it as a window it's a little finicky with reading my selection through the mouse
