Ideal settings for FI-XP

Postby drhotwing1 » Fri Nov 18, 2016 4:50 pm

I'm having a bit of a problem with performance vs. quality in all three flight simulators using Flyinside for VR. But, I want to focus on X-Plane. If I max everything out in the graphics settings the quality is barely good enough but the performance is pretty bad (38/78 average). If I lower the graphics settings to get fairly solid 45/90 everything is pretty blurry and the jaggies begin to appear (due to AA settings being lowered). If I use the highest tile resolution and FXAA, etc in Flyinside settings my performance drops to an ugly 18/38 ish.

I have one of the best PC's that you can possibly get on the market today: i7 4.2Ghz, GTX 1080 founders edition, 64GB memory, W10, and all of the latest drivers on everything; Oculus Rift CV1. Nothing overclocked or tweaked, and I have the NVidia settings on default. No Supersampling etc. There is no way that these flight simulators can perform that bad in VR. I also have Aerofly FS 2 in VR that runs on ultra everything and SS at 1.80 and it runs at 90 FPS and it's beautiful.

Has anyone found a sweet spot yet for the graphics configuration, including what's set in Flyinside as well (keeping at least show 3D shadows in airplane enabled as I feel without shadows nothing feels real to me) that will give you really nice graphics quality yet maintain at least 45/90 FPS?

Please help, i'm ready to give up here with these older flight simulators...

check your power option, make sure is on high performance. I have a 970 and I'm getting 35/90 with everything in x plane nearly max out.

Some of the things I see have an impact in performance are lock sim framerate to headset (uncheck works better), resolution ( I have it set to 2880x1620), msaa ( I have it set to 4x), clouds (none), shadow detail (static), water reflection detail (none) and asw off.

35/90 is not perfect but very comfortable 8-)

go to settings on windows, click on power & sleep, under related settings click on additional power settings. under preferred plans you should see 2 options, Balanced and High performance, select high performance. in flyinside go to settings and uncheck Lock simulator framerate to headset.

I'm getting 45/90 flying the IXEG 737, FF 757-2 or ROTATE MD80. Flying the Carenado Mooney abt 55/90 all with fairly high settings all around. SMP set at 7500sq (cloud shadows off, reflection off and ground fog blend at 300 with crisp clouds, dense particles) , in xplane shadows off/(on w/Mooney) respectfully, Siberia Winter, default roads, Highest texture setting, Airport/planes on high With AA/FXAA at 4 in xplane. I keep the screen monitor fps at 15 in FI settings as any higher has a hard impact on the Rift. Also FI settings, 4 aa etc, and fairly high rez (cannot remember off hand)...However, I'm still experimenting to see if I can get even a higher frame rate. I use a 980ti and my MB oc'd cpu 8% so I run at 4.6 or so-I believe
my 2cents, hope this helps :ugeek:

btw, running HD mesh and sometimes UHD with hardly an impact. At BIG Airports it can get a little lower but not much UNLESS...lots of weather. That will bunker me down when there are lots of cloud cover

power option doesn't change anything so I assume you just not so honest with us about your frames with "next max out settings". It affects oly cpu but most of non laptop systems cpu power management goes well by itself.
