I upgraded to Skymaxx Pro 4 and initially I thought it was great but I have, today, switched to xEnviro. The main problems I had with SMP4 in XP11b2 were:
1. If you set the draw distance greater than 13000km the clouds flash (all of them!) when using the Vive
2. The clouds rotate when you move your head around in the cockpit.
3. On an overcast day, the cockpit is lit like its sunny, with bright/strong shadows in the cockpit and the wings cast a strong shadow on the ground
4. ...and the clincher...when the area slider is set to 12000 and you are around 25000 feet you can see the circle of clouds around you.
What I like about xEnviro:
1. Very atmospheric feel on an overcast day - the sky colour is dark and it feels gloomy (it changes the sky colour I think). Flying through the overcast layer reveals a bright blue sky and the overcast layer stretching out in all directions below you. Very convincing in my opinion.
2. The clouds don't rotate, the cockpit is darker on a cloudy day and the wings don't cast a shadow (the shadows in the cockpit are weaker too).
3. Not too heavy on frame rates
4. Clouds stretch out to the horizon even with the settings set to 'Optimum' (not max).
I got the 'feeling' that this is the weather engine I have been waiting for. It is only 1.04 so very promising.
