FPS: What is the CPU doing and what is the GPU doing?

Postby antigrav » Mon Jan 09, 2017 11:35 pm

I'm trying to get a better handle on frame rate (FPS) influencers.

With a GPU like the GeForce GTX 1070 having the "use Phyx" setting flagged (with the idea that it will do the heavy work no matter what), I would think the CPU would not have to do too much in XP with FlyInside.

But what is the hand-off between the CPU and GPU in a simulator like XP? Which processor does what kind of task?

I've been able to keep FPS around 30, but I'd like to get them higher for smoother motion with more detail. I have plenty of RAM, SSD, brand new GPU, but a somewhat older i7. Oculus doesn't like my i7, but it doesn't seem to matter too much.
Rig: i7-7700 | 32GB RAM | nVidia GeForce GTX1070 | SSD 1TB
OS: Win10 Pro 64
VR: Oculus Rift CV1, Leap Motion sensor
Sim: XP11 | DCS
