Seat / Camera Position

Postby Francois » Tue Mar 21, 2017 3:35 am

There is a way to permanently adjust the default camera position? I find that the aircraft that I would like to fly most often is offset too far to the back, down and right. Is there a file that I can edit that will always use a specific offset when FlyInside loads?

Thanks!

Do you have a spare button on your joystick to assign to recenter view? Press that on start and you should be good to go. Just bind it in the flyinside UI :)

The recenter works nicely but there are times where it puts you too far from the cockpit... it really depends on the airplane, sometime you want to be a bit closer to the cockpit to better see the gauges even if the center is a tad behind. It would be nice to have a way to adjust the centering settings, not urgent but I think it would make life easier.

Ah, now I know what you mean!

Just use the standard keys for X-Plane: the directional keys and "." And "," to move forward or backward

That is what I do atm... but then if for some reason you need to recenter you will be put back in the original place and you'll have to take off the oculus to move the position again.
It would be nice to be able to save the absolute position within the cockpit to the config file. Once again, nothing urgent.

Do you have a free hat switch on your Joystick ? With some aircraft this happens to me. I recenter view with a button bound in Flyinside then I use the hat switch for up down backwards and forwards. Never need to take off the HMD this way.

Yeah, why would you need to take the HMD off of your head? To recenter your chair?:)
Normally I recenter it once at the beginning of a flight and after that I don't have a need for it again

In FSX and Prepar3D, you can change the values in the "view" section of the aircraft.cfg files. Once and for always. I think the question is, how to do this in X-Plane?

My bad I had to take off the oculus because I did not map buttons to the view commands.

What I do now is mapping buttons to the following commandref:

sim/general/left General command: left.
sim/general/right General command: right.
sim/general/up General command: up.
sim/general/down General command: down.
sim/general/forward General command: forward.
sim/general/backward General command: backward.

And adjust the view when I start the flight. It's not sticking as I said, the default view will be reverted once you reload the aircraft.

I was definitely wrong in saying this is something that would need to be in FI. It's definitely not an issue once you have the buttons mapped, it's really a matter of seconds to use a hat to move forward / backward to find the right spot.

Thanks for the tips guys. I got really busy at work and wasn't able to log in for a while.

Yeah, it seems like Xplane doesn't have a way to configure the 'zero' position. It sure would be nice if we could configure it with FlyInside itself. For now I will just 'center' my view manually each time.
