Xplane 11 Settings and fps questions

Postby nils16 » Wed Apr 05, 2017 10:35 am

Hi all

I have follow PC:
CPU Intel i7 2600K@OC 4.25GHz
GPU Zotac GTX 970 4GB on latest driver
RAM 16gb DDR3
Mobo ASUS P8Z68
Drive 500GB SSD
Simulator X-Plane 11 RC1
HTC Vive

I have playing with my Settings for a while...

I use Ortho4XP Sceneries.

I put all my Settings quite low. Now I got around 26/84FPS which is playable for me. But its not so great for visuals...
I lowered resolution in FlyInside to 3024X1680p. ASW is on. Alntyalaysing is Off in Flyinside...
Clear Weather and visability is 23.5sm. If I put more it decrease my FPS a bit...

Anyway my CPU is at only around 40% occupied.

Any Advice to my Settings?

Is it worth to buy a GTX1080? will I get much more FPS?
Is it "Compatible with my CPU, because mine is i7 2nd Generation.
GTX1080 would be abot 550USD.
If I need a new Mainboard and RAM then I have to spend another 700USD which I wanna avoid.

Thank you guys

Hi Nils,

based from your last screenshot your CPU is the one which limits your frame rate the most.
Of course a 1080 will be faster than a 970 but even with your current setup you would(!) get better fps with a better CPU.

Thank you for your reply.

So it`s better to get a new CPU and Mainboard than a new GTX 1080 graphic card?

Then I would buy a Intel Core i7 7700K BOX (LGA 1151, 4.20GHz, Unlocked) 375USD and new Mainboard with RAM...

Hi again Nils,

like I said: Of course you would (in general) also benefit from a new GPU but even right now at the moment you could get better fps if you had a better CPU because right now your CPU is the slower one from both.

You can see from your last screenshot how long the CPU and the GPU need to render a frame. Because the number at the CPU-side is higher the CPU needs more time to render a frame and slows down your system. As a result your general frame rate is limited.

Try to hover over the sliders in the settings of X-Plane. There are good descriptions whether the setting affects the GPU or the CPU.

Great advice from Stephan. But for future proofing if you "can" afford a GTX1080 then go for it as well :)
