Double Shadow/Low Frame rate XP11 / FI1.8

Ok - I turned off HDR + SSAO and double shadows are gone and performance is back up. I thought I've had this off for some time now and don't remember turning it on. So far sitting in the rain at ohare i had about 20/70 for FPS. Gonna go give this a quick test flight and see.

Hey all,

After the latest update, shadow and FPS issues are a very high priority for us. There are a few things going on in this one thread, so bear with me.

1. Does anyone still hit shadow issues after turning off both FlyWithLUA, and going from "HDR+SSAO to HDR"? Currently, the shadow issues we've been running into here have only been with SSAO turned on, so if you're running into shadow issues without SSAO, more information would be helpful in tracking it down.
2. For those of you who removed FlyWithLUA, and then had shadow problems go away, is there any chance you could narrow down a specific script causing the issue? We'll do some experimentation on our end too of course.

Jzig: When you say "new low FPS issue", are you seeing a significant performance difference between 1.8 and the previous FlyInside version? Any chance you could characterize the "FPS: XX/YY" numbers? So you know, you can safely install FlyInside 1.74 over FlyInside 1.8 and vice-versa to switch versions. Also, can you confirm that you're getting lower FPS without HDR than with HDR?

pegruder: Is the "8 fps" in menus bug new for you since prior versions of FlyInside with X-Plane 11?

Thank you for the reports everyone. Trying to coalesce these reports to figure out how many different bugs there are, so we can fix as many as possible for 1.81

I was just now able to test since I read your suggestions. Here is what I did and found.

1) Launched XP11 + Flyinside (touch controllers off) graphics slider on medium (no HDR): Shadow/weird reflections present and FPS average 17/30, including very low FPS in flyinside menu's

2) Moved FlyWithLua folder out of plugins folder and relaunched: Shadow/weird reflections NOT present, FPS still around 17/30

3) Moved graphics slider to High (HDR on): Significant FPS increase 33/90ish, shadow/weird reflections NOT present

4) Moved graphics slider to highest (HDR + SSAO): Shadow/weird reflections presnet, FPS still around 33/90


So I have a playable setting now, no FlywithLUA and HDR on... Oh and I will try to test the previous version when I have more time, but I did not have the FPS issue in the previous version.

Jzig: Can you test which lua script is responsible for these shadows?
Take a look in your FlywithLua/Scripts folder.

A quick way would be to remove them in groups of 2/3/4 and check if the shadows have gone. If FlywithLua is actively running and the shadows are gone the "bad" script was among the removed group.

Sorry about that, realized I never reported back! I dropped down to just HDR and it seems most issues cleared for me. I also had some weird issues with XEnviro which cleared after downgrading that. So far so good. I've also built a new machine and a fresh install of W10 and haven't had any major issues to report. I do still have FLyWithLUA but am only using maybe 2 scripts, one being the flap detent script. Can't recall the other I'd have to double check.
