Xenviro kind of worked for me, but I uninstalled it pretty fast, and I deeply regret spending money on it. It might be OK in 2D, but in VR it's much worse than the default clouds in XP11 (and for many aspects even the weather system). Xp11 clouds are particle based, and though not perfect, you can still see those particles, since they are not very small, but still it's the most volumetricky feeling I've had in VR flight simulation so far. Xenviro on the other hand has 2D clouds and puts you back right to the FS2002 era. (I know even FSX used 2D clouds, but xenviro is worse, especially in VR). For this reason I haven't tried it with 1.8, and with the previous version I had to use Xenviro 1.04, later versions didn't work.
I don't know skymaxx pro, but despite some obvious shortcomings I'm quite happy with the default system for now.
