Well my first impression was that shimmering might have been improved... what is everyone settled on for AA? I use none in sim and 8x in FI? (no fxaa in FI).. seems to be the best.. still have to lower reflections to minimal though (i think)..
Took the Pa 28R for a flight in a local ortho area.. minimal shimmering.. frames maybe 39 fps / 90 (when not in VR my frames are around 55)..
Then.. bottom drops out.. tried DD NYC area.. started at KJFK.. frames around 33 (i think around 44 with just the 4k).. soon as you aim at the city it drops to single digits (34 on my 4k screen in 2D).. shimmering is a massive mess (still).. unusable in this region (DD NYCX works ok in p3dv4)
All of this with clear skies.
(im using rendering options plugin / ultimate mod with preset #4 for reference)
edit: if i remove the rendering plugin.. i can get around 27 fps max near NYC (24 on average though), barely usable.. then the shimmering.. if i set the sim to 4x from none, it helps tremendously, but the framerate drops to 15 fps.. this even with setting msaa to disabled in FI. Side note.. in all this im using the highest sampling res of 3840.. i may drop down one notch and try again with AA still at 4x in sim. Lowering the sampling to 2880 and leaving 4x AA on, is almost as bad quality wise as 3840 with No AA in sim shimmer wise.. frames went up to 24 though from 15.
If you turn off HDR it does help on the frame rate, but the shimmering even at AA of 16x is terrible.
I guess what this boils down to, is that for hard hitting areas, they will likely be unplayable in VR with 4x sim AA (which is needed).
Also. Possibly setting the fi ini to 5120 2880 and turning AA off might be another option I read on here. May explore this
