Dolomiti 3d or how to melt your GPU in VR.

I just purchased this add on scenery for x-plane. My god it looks stunning. Has anyone else been brave enough to try it in VR? To look it’s best it requires ground shadows to be turned on. That is because rather than the usual draped mesh this scenery had the mountains created as individual objects (think really big houses). The result is the terrain correctly casts shadows on itself based on the position of the sun. The shadows on the orthophotos have been removed by the developer to accommodate this. It is stunning during late evening and early morning.

There are penalties though. I just flew from Bolzano to Innsbruck in VR and for the first half of the flight which covers this add on my GPU was at >95 load and using over 9.5gb of vram with a framerate of.... wait for it.... ~30/90. Unfortunately not usable long term for me as that would make me sick after prolonged periods.

Fingers crossed Laminar continue to push rendering pipline improvements. This scenery at 45fps ASW would be awesome.

There are some issues with building placement which I raised and was told they are being addressed. For the most part it is excellent though. Helicopter flyers with high end systems will love it.

Thanks for that detailed report! :)
I saw it on the .org forum too but the price was too high IMO.

Did you ever try programs like MSI Afterburner?

Yes I am running afterburner. I use it to overclocked the 1080ti and to monitor performance.
