Ah HA!! Thank you for posting that link, and I believe the pinging noise that is going on there is the "Windows Exclamation" sound. Interesting because I've personally never heard that, but then again, my experiences with OOMs are rather limited. One thing that I noticed in that video, is when he did a brief side by side of the config files. The Steam edition config had a larger value for Shader_Cache_Primed. Since this is the same machine, I would assume same values on both configs, but that is not the case. He showed both configs briefly, and not in their entirety. So, if it's not violating any terms of agreements, I would like to request a Steam Ed. FSX.cfg file from somebody. Somebody who has an i5 running at roughly 4.5GHz, with 16GB of DDR3, and with an Nvidia card with 2GB of DDR5 (GTX670 would be perfect). With that config file, I can do an exact side by side comparison to see what other differences exist between the two. With that information, I may be able to assist Dan on what may be helping to alleviate OOMs on the Steam versions. I don't see why there would be any legalities tied to the FSX.cfg, but if there are, then I apologize for even asking.

Oh...did anybody else notice that the Texture_Bandwidth_Mult=160 on the Steam config? opposed to Texture_Bandwidth_Mult=40 on the non-steam variant?...as well as the Shader_Cache_Primed=1693749248 opposed to the non-steam Shader_Cache_Primed=1693458432 ? This guy had the right idea by placing the 2 configs right next to each other, but he failed big time by not simply copying the Steam config over to the non steam edition FSX and then running it. He goes through that section quickly, and there could be other variables that cannot be seen. If somebody can post their steam FSX.cfg, I can easily compare the two and give you my unbiased report on every single discrepancy that I find.....I'm dead in the water without somebody sending those configs
