Fatal Error Encountered

Postby Chrisbo » Wed Aug 05, 2015 11:34 am

Hi,
I got FSX Deluxe edition working with flyinside and Oculus runtime 0.5.0.1, but I found that it was hard to see the dials so I used the flyinside settings to increase the resolution and anti-aliasing. It said it needed a restart to get working so I closed it and tried to restart it, but now everytime I load FSX I get the error in the attachment.
The pc specs are:
i7 4790k stock speeds
GTX 980ti Giga G1 edition
32GB DDR3 1866MHz Ram
Samsung 850 pro SSD

So I know I'm not running short on specs to run this, and everytime i try to increase the graphics settings of FSX above low after a few minutes FSX crashes due to running out of memory, which is weird as it is only using around 800mb by the time it crashes. What is going wrong?

Thanks, Chris

Hi mate , do you have the affinity mask trick added to your config ? Usually when changing settings when using Flyinside then you will get a crash . I'm sure others here have the memory problem and I think there's a whole thread on here somewhere about it. Did you have a read through ? Plus some addons have been know to cause problems. I know Dan is working on other versions of Fsx but by far the most stable is steam edition. Also it might be worth trying the 0.6.0.0 runtime and downloading the Flyinside version for that ?

Hey,
I will be changing to steam edition in the next few days, so hopefully that could fix some problems. I was on 6.0.0 but it crashed a lot more and seems to be quite a bit more stable on 5.0.1. I did read it, but I don't think an actual conclusion was reached in that thread, and I'm not running any addons at the moment, just stock FSX. What is this affinity mask trick? Everytime I try run FSX now it just crashes on loading so I cant even revert my changes in flyinside, even reinstalling didn't do the trick.

Thanks

Try that and also delete after saving your fsx.cfg. might work ?

I'll let you know if it works tomorrow morning when I get access to that PC again.

I deleted the FSX.CFG file, reopened FSX to make a new one then added the affinitymask into the new cfg file and when using the oculus I still get the error in the original attachment. Is there any config file for flyinside for me to change the setting for the resolution? FSX is working perfectly fine without the oculus attached, just getting this problem when I try use the oculus.

Your FSX graphics settings determine a lot about memory usage. Stuff like autogen scenery, radius detail, mesh, etc all can load up memory. Just as a test, what happens if you turn the sliders and detail all the way to minimums?

Also, can you put more detail in your system specs like driver versions and such and put that in your signature? It makes it a lot easier for others to help instead of searching through your posts to find what you said where.

There is a config file for FlyInside. I'm not at my computer but think it's in the %appdata% area.

I've updated my signature now to similar layout to yours to help with any hardware or software question. I've also changed my settings to hopefully help reduce memory usage even though I have 32GB of it. I've found the config file and I need to change the oculus target resolution i assume:

"Oculus Target Resolution 9 3840 2374 21"

but I dont know what resolution to change it to as I don't know what resolutions it uses in flyinside. And maybe change Anti-Aliasing as well but not sure what to change this to either:

"SMAA (Anti-aliasing) 1 3 29"

These settings keep crashing FSX whenever the rift is on, so its definitely these as these were the only things I changed between runs.
Thanks
