Lots of Issues - Still Not Flying

Postby AngleofAttack » Thu Aug 13, 2015 6:56 pm

Hey all,
My office mate has a DK2 and we've decided to get it all hooked up to my simulator. I have a decently capable machine from 2011 with a GTX580 running Windows 7 64Bit. So far, we've been unable to get the Oculus to work in FSX.

Here's the procedure we followed, more or less:

- Install 0.6.0.0 Runtime and SDK
- Install FlyInside FSX for the same
- FSX Recognizes FlyInside when it opens up, and after a couple startups (disabling some things, and enabling the correct 'monitor')

At this point, I'd expect to simply start a flight. I do so with that default powered glider over PNW. No dice. No Oculus.

Help! Would love to get this working.

If your video card is a Pre-Kepler one, then you will be better off running the 0.5.0.1 runtimes unless you can run the Oculus Desk Demo to work with your current configuration. You want to check that first. If that doesn't go, then the older runtimes will likely be your solution.

Ok, I'll give that a shot and report back. Thanks for the tip.

Could you let me know specifically what errors you're seeing? I've got a Pre-Kepler card in the mail, due to reports of incompatibilities with GTX 4xx and 5xx cards. Once they arrive I'll start testing and fixing, but you may be running up against a hardware incompatibility.

WOOOOOOOOOW! I got it to work in P3D. UNREAL! Now, I'm only able to see the F22 normally, and when I try and load anything else, I basically get two different screens. One different perspective per eye. Now what?!

This is an informative thread at the Oculus forums:

That is an interesting thread, Derek. I wonder if the only reason Angle is even able to run is that he is using 0.5.0.1.

That Oculus decided to raise the minimum supported spec is also telling.

Angle, you may have no other option but to upgrade your video card. You should read that thread and decide for yourself, though. It looks like 5 and maybe 6 series cards are done for doing VR with the Rift going forward.

The essence of that thread is that Oculus is supporting post-Kepler cards forward from 0.6.0.0. If you have one, then the v6 ruintimes are fine. If not, you stop at 0.5.0.1.
