Performance

Hi,

Is just tried the alpha preview, and it's already a really well polished product, the UI is great (this panel that you can freely drag and place in the cockpit is a great idea).

... but the performance is terrible. With every setting set to minimal, I can barely reach 30 FPS in game and 40 FPS for timewarp, which is pretty unplayable.
I tried with oculus runtime 0.6.0.1 and 0.6.0.0, same result. I've tried fiddling with the graphic settings but nothing helps.

My specs:

i5 2500K
Nvidia GTX 980 (driver 347.88)
16 GB RAM
Asus PG278Q at 144Hz
Windows 8.1 64
FSX Steam Edition

May I ask if you're playing with the Steam Edition of FSX ? Most of us Beta testers are and have not had an issue with unplayability. Your Specs certainly look upto the task.

Why not try an upgrade of your Nvidia driver? 30 fps in game should be plenty.

Your specs are great, you should be getting solid performance on that computer. Something funky most be going on.

Could you upload your fsx.cfg file for us to take a look at?

What happens if you turn up your graphics a bit? High resolution textures, landscape detail, etc?

Is it possible you have NVIDIA forcing some settings overrides (super-resolution rendering, forced AA, etc) which could be interfering with FlyInside?

The only other suspect thing is your 144hz monitor. I haven't had a chance to test with one yet, maybe forcing it to 60hz will make a difference?

I'm taking shots in the dark here, but maybe one of them will help you. For reference I have a slightly faster processor (3570k) and slightly worse GPU (780 Ti) and get >100 FSX fps with settings turned down all the way, and always 75 fps in timewarp.

I tried setting graphics to ultra high, it's worse (10 fps).
I also tried to set my main monitor to 60 hz but it didn't help.
I've deleted fsx.cfg to reset it to default values. (can't add it as an attachment though, "The extension cfg is not allowed")

I'll try a different nvidia driver version tonight and let you know (recent versions make other games crash, that's why I reverted to this one).

Well I tried uninstalling all my nvidia drivers and installing the latest version, didn't change a thing.

I was in the process of upgrading my computer.
Last night I changed my motherboard and CPU, and since then the game runs perfectly.
Still couldn't figure why performance was so low before though.
