couple of thoughts about the forum

Hi Dan, tony,

couple of thoughts about the forum:

a)
With all due respect to FI, I think that the word "Flyinside" should be removed from all the thread names for simplicity.

e.g.:
General Discussion (vs "FlyInside General Discussion")
Aircraft Compatibility * (vs "FlyInside Aircraft Compatibility(NEW)")
HTC Vive (vs "Flyinside for HTC Vive")
etc. etc...

Eventually we all know that this forum is about Flyinside :)

b)
The version number in the following forum names is actually not necessary since it's anyway always the latest:
FlyInside FSX Pro 1.71
FlyInside P3D Pro 1.71
Flyinside XP Pro 1.71
(having the version number implies that there are different threads for each version which is not the case).

but following point (a) I would actually anyway just name them: FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane to make things more readable and simple.

c)
with regards to point (b), I think that the text "Please post your BUGS here." is not representing the spirit of those threads anymore. Not all issues are bugs. very often people are seeking for advice about configuration, howto use the sim etc.
Maybe something like "Sim specific discussion (e.g. bugs, configuration, howto etc)" would be more appropriate.

d)
Now that FI support all major sims out there, I believe that the general-discussion thread should no longer be the default place for debates.
Many (most?) issues only apply in specific sim, yet people are not always aware that their issue is not relevant on the other platforms.
(Using both p3d and xp in parallel since couple of weeks now, I only now realized that).

I would recommend to shift the focus from the general-discussion to the sim specific threads (FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane) and encourage people to use those.
Maybe the text "Talk about anything FlyInside related" (in the general discussion thread) should be changed to something like:
"cross-sim and cross-hardware issues or when nowhere else fit better"

e)
I would recommend to create a "Crash/bug report" forum where people could publish those events. I believe that beside Dan nobody else is interested in reading those technical log outputs. Therefore it would be good to have a separated designated area where it won't bother anybody else.
(or maybe ask people to mail it directly to you... or even better, implement a crash reporting tool).

Hope my ideas could inspire you guys

cheers,

BlueThing

Some great points and ideas there mate, I was thinking over Xmas how to tidy things up a bit and you make some great suggestions in your post. Given me lots to think about and will get on it very soon.

Nice one ;)

Thanks Tony,

and while we are at it, maybe it is slowly the time to consider re-branding flyinside-fsx.com to something more universal...
(unfortunately, just Flyinside is already taken...)

and one last thing before I'm off to bed:
in the hardware division, next to Oculus (Rift/Touch...) and HTC Vive I believe that a LeapMotion thread would also make sense.

Re-branding is outside my remit but personally why change what isn't broken on that score ? That's what it's known as and I think it's a great brand name ;)

I guess we don't have to agree on everything ;)

The fact that posts need to be manually approved seems a bit ott ?! Or is this just for a certain period of time / number of posts of the new user?

3 posts need to be approved by mods. If you see the amount of spam I go through then you'd understand ;)
