Performance on i7 4790k cpu and gtx 1080

Just installed the new sim and I'm liking it a lot. My question is about performance and getting things totally smooth.

Right now I can only run things on medium graphics and get about 80-85 fps. The occasional jutter here and there.

I7 4790k @4.6 GHz
Gtx 1080
16gb ram

Does this sound normal? Any optimization tips?

Sounds low , we're getting solid 90 on identical much less over locked hardware, medium settings

Which hmd, pixel multiplier, msaa setting are you running? You shouldn't be CPU limited but you could be asking too much of your gpu in terms of pixel fill depending on what your settings are.

Huh that's surprising then! Any chance I could TeamViewer with you sometime next week to see why it isn't running better?

Sure we could try that some time. FWIW, i am getting a solid 144fps in non-VR/monitor mode. Not sure if that means anything. I'm going to fool with some settings to see if i can improve anything. Right now i am seeing dips to 45 fps and and my CPU usage never goes over 40% overall, and GPU never above 65%. Ram usage is 58% . If i use oculus tray tool and watch perf mon, i'm dropping a ton of frames, and headroom is always in the red.

If it may help to compare and know what can be expected :

My config is : CPU i7 8700K (hexacore) no OC - 32 Go RAM DDR4 2400 - SSD 240Go SATA III - HDD 2To SATA III 64Mo - GTX 1070 TI 8Go Driver 416.34 - Win 10 64 - Flyinside Flight Simulator on external USB3 SSD / Oculus Rift CV1 / Pimax 4k

Performance is 85 to 90 fps in the B737 cockpit (90 stable in the Baron), no lags or stutters, Oculus Rift with Oculus tray tool supersampling set to 2.5 for Flyinside with these in-game settings :



(I am afraid to say that it does not work so good with the Pimax4 k : need to put pixel density on 1 and rendering options to 2 in Piplay : I think Steam VR is not optimized and would be nice if the Pimax could be use more "directly": will post it on another thread...)

Hmm, there must be something funny going on. If you have 85-90 fps with a 1070ti and SS set to 2.5, i should definitely be getting 90 fps with a 1080 and ss set to the default of 1.

I did notice one odd thing, and that is windows explorer seems to be constantly be utilizing about 7% cpu while the game is running. Is this normal?

On my old computer I was using "Gamebooster" while playing 3D games : it stops any unnecessary process while you are playing https://www.razer.com/cortex/boost

Maybe it could help you if some process is "eating" your fps... ?

It's worth a shot but i'm pretty OCD when it comes to that stuff, my machine runs lean and mean as per task manager stats.
