New installation after a computer reset

Postby gerod » Sat Jun 15, 2019 6:33 am

Hello,
Next week my computer will be back to the manufacturer and a complete reset will certainly be done. What is the correct procedure to install again FFS at the same level ? Is the initial key still available ?
Thank you very much for explanations.
Best regards

Hi Gerod,

Hope the reset goes well! Yes you can use your initial key, and if it doesn't work for some reason just shoot me an e-mail :)

Thanks,
Dan

Hello,
Just a question : is it necessary to begin with downloading the trial version on my new configuration (the same computer after a reset of Windows).
Thank you

Hello,
I downloaded the trial version and the installation was OK, but when launching the soft I had a system error as shown in the screenshot.
What can I do ? Thank you for explanations.
Best regards
gerod

PS : I have reinstalled the program and the problem was the same

Hi Gerod,

If you install these DirectX runtimes, that should get you the missing DLL. Link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... px?id=8109

Thanks,

Hello,
Thanks for the link : the 0.5.4 version is installed but it took so long a time (about 7 hours for downloading with a connection lower than 0.4 MB/s. I would like to try the 0.5.9.6 version but I guess the streaming mode will not work properly with such a speed.
Best regards

Hello,
I tried to download the 0.5.9.7 version but the process stops at 23/215. I had to quit the simulator. I guess it is possible to go back to the previous version. Thank you for explaining how to do.

This was mentioned in another thread, but the latest version includes a single (large) file, so although it will appear to be frozen, just let it do it's thing and that file will eventually be downloaded.

Hello,
Everything is OK now but I was surprised by the frozen state during more than an hour. As my connection is very slow (0.4 MB/s) I have been happy to see that the streaming mode was working correctly. Is it possible to store the downloaded data during streaming as it is the case in FlightGear (via TerraSync) ?
This new feature is fantastic. Thank you.

Glad you're up and running Gerod! Please shoot me an e-mail if you'd like a Steam key btw (their updater/downloader is a little better than ours I must admit).

Unfortunately we can't create a store of downloaded data due to the ToS of the Bing maps imagery. We do create a local store of elevation/buildings/etc as that's our own data, but the base imagery has to download dynamically.

Thanks,
Dan
