Flyinside Beta Branch 0.6.7.8 (NEW)

Hi All,

We have a pretty substantial update here. First off you'll notice improved low-level visuals. The ground has detail instead of blur at low-level, and we've added a grass effect. You can adjust the size and density of grass from "Settings -> Graphics". If you run into performance issues with it please let us know, you can disable it outright by setting the Density to "Off".

Additionally, I think we've finally nailed the "floating airports" bug. If you run into any airports that still have floating runways please let us know.

Other than that we have some little fixes and adjustments. Hope you enjoy the build!

  • Improves low-level texture detail!
  • Adds grass!
  • Fixes floating runways/airports (let us know if you still see any)
  • Adds animated windsock to scenerytools
  • Fixes RW162 cyclic handle lag
  • Scenery tools improvements to object placement and adjustments
  • Several crash-fixes

Opting into Steam Beta:

  • Open Steam
  • Go to the "Library" section
  • Right click on "FlyInside Flight Simulator"
  • Select Properties
  • Go to the "betas" tab
  • From the "Select the beta you would like to opt into:" dropdown, select "beta"
  • Let Steam do its update thing!

Opting into the Website-Version Beta:
  • Turn on Debugging Tools from "Help -> About -> Usage Options"
  • Open "Debugging Tools -> Debug Diagnostics"
  • Expand "Debug Options"
  • For "Updates URL" specify "https://cdn.flyinside-fsx.com/SimLatest.ClosedBeta2/" (the final slash is important)
  • Restart your sim
  • Use "Sim -> Check for Updates" - It should show a prompt for version 0.6.7.8 currently

Better airport terrain representation now, however the terrain mesh still seems very inaccurate outside of these areas, especially around the south east of the UK. Also, what’s with the HUGE radar towers everywhere? :shock:

After the latest update I get CTD while sim loading. Activated error reporting for each crash.

Great, another update, I'll give it ago.

So, I installed the latest Beta, fired the sim and... CTD :o , tried again... and CTD :( .
Reboot the machine
Fired the sim and... it flies :D

First impression:
1. Shrubs around airport adds to the overall feel. I know it has nothing to do with flight model and other technical features we want but at least it felt right. No shrubs popped into runway and that was nice.
2. runways so far are not floating... yeh
3. Orthophoto streaming is quite good and fun to fly in. So far it is the future of simulation scenery in my opinion, so good work there.

As usual, we need more depth, so I'm waiting for better instruments implementation and interaction. Currently this is one of the fields were there is a huge gap relative to the graphics implementation.
I hope for shorter update cycles and SDK enhancements.

I reinstalled the sim and it was OK until I accepted the update to 0.6.7.8. Bugsplats sent.

Hi Dan: At the fourth attempt, I reinstalled 0.6.0.0 again, after culling any files or anything in the registry, and 0.6.0.0 loads and runs. My previous reinstall from FSX website downloaded 7577 files and went straight to 0.6.7.8 without requiring me to enter my password and crashed while loading as before. The latest downloaded 7204 files at 11.91 Gb and I had to input my password. So, I guess my culling had cleaned evrything out. I will now risk updating to the Beta again.

OK. In business again :-) Update downloaded 378 new files bringing the total to 7582.

Interested to know what determines grass placemen? After looking at a handful of airports I found WSSS with an abundance and EGLL with none.
