RAM to 100%, then crash

Postby jschall » Wed Oct 24, 2018 9:48 am

I monitor RAM usage by setting the Task Manager to Always On Top (is there a better way, a better utility?). Graphics set to High.

After about 30 minutes flying the Otter out of SeaTac (KSEA) around Seattle and towards Bremerton (KPWT), the RAM hits 100%. Then it falls to around 40%, then ZERO, then CTD (no Bugsplat).

This to me is the highest priority bug to fix.

Yes, this is one we're working on. Very very high priority. Just checking, do you have Virtual Memory enabled on Windows?

Thanks, good to know. Could you test something for me, try increasing the paging file to something ridiculous like 16GB (if you have the disk space)? I'm curious to see if this is a pure running-out-of-RAM crash, or if there's something additional at play.

Thanks,

OK, not sure if this is what you need:

I set the page file on C: drive to min 2048, max 16000 MB.

I will try the same flight...

OK, this time Memory went to 100% after 20 minutes, but quickly came down to about 60%. A few minutes later, crash with Bugsplat - I sent a report.

Hello, I'm surprised you asked to make manipulations on the configuration of his computer and especially on the memory JSCHALL. This means that you can not reproduce this bug in your office and that only remote users are facing this bug.
I would like to know if in your premises when you do tests of duration, you have a progressive rise of the memory and then the appearance of the bug, if it is not the case, the only difference is that we go through a download for the sim and for the scenery.
Greetings.

Hi Dominique,

We have seen some high memory use (we're working on this). What we haven't reproduced in office are:
A. Unlimited memory growth, it always levels out (although too high)
B. Crashes - even on 8gb systems the sim just uses some Virtual memory in our tests, and keeps running.

So we're trying to determine if it's just too much memory use being higher than his ram+vm allow, or an issue we aren't seeing ourselves.

I doubt it's related to scenery download, we do test that ourselves plenty.

Jschall, could you send your settings .ini to dan@flyinside-fsx.com ? It may be related to a settings change of some sort if you're getting crashes and high memory use even with increased vm.

Thanks,
Dan

Hello, When I do a flight every time, I have a steady rise in memory until my 16GB, the warning signs are the flicker of small bodies of water, appearance of small cliffs see a big cliff and it can go to the stop of the simulator.
I have never done KBOS -KJFK in 310R, I always had a problem ..
