Who ordered the CV1?

Postby Markeebo » Wed Jan 06, 2016 1:09 pm

Well, I got on at 7 minutes past the opening and the entire process had ground to a halt. Must have "Complete Order" button 100 times. Nothing but errors.

After several restarts and swapping payment methods multiple times between CC and PayPal, it went through.

32 mins after opening.

$599

EXPECTED ship dad of 4/16. Kinda pissed that we have slipped fromQ4-2015 to Q1-2016 to now Q2-2016, but since I'm not driving the bus, I guess I gotta go where it takes me.

Anyone else get theirs ordered?

I will wait for your reviews on how much improvement it is over the dk2. If worth it I will sell my dk2 and buy the cv1.

I ordered. Also got stuck in the credit card verification step, panicked and pressed the back button. Should have kept refreshing instead, I had a place in the line to have it delivered in March. Now I got April. I'm so f-ing stupid.

Yeah, the DK2 might still have some value, considering the price of the CV1.

Looks like they are shipping June for new orders now so we're still doing well.

I plan on ordering the Vive too and making final call when we get some comparative reviews and hear from Dan how well each can be supported. I think the Rift is a given but really like the pass-through camera in the Vive and some of the other capabilities.

Can unopened boxes be resisted? I guess we'll find out... :D

I'm in, May shipping. I dont like the idea of getting the case, controller, headphones and some games I wont use, but such is life.

Yes, about the games: Not the best choices IMO. Although I like space combat games, EVE:Valkyrie looks like a headache-inducing mess, and the other one a jump'n'run... not really the ideal genre to showcase VR.

I've played EVE:online for quite a few years before having to stop due to medical studies, so I'm a little intrigued by Valkyrie. I don't like that it looks more like an arcade game than a simulator though, so I don't think I would have spent money on it if it wasn't included. I'm probably going to try Luckys Tail (Tale? Which spelling do they use?) out since it's free, but it's a game I would never buy myself. And I HATE gamepads. I'm very disappointed at oculus for including it, since it will give more incentive for developers to make games for it. And I want to use my mouse and keyboard, or my HOTAS! I don't like turning with a gamepad stick, it's too slow and imprecise. It even gives me a slight feeling of discomfort, even though I'm immune to VR sickness. But turning with a mouse feels quite ok! I think it's because you turn quicker, more like snap-turn, with a mouse.

I already have a wireless game pad so don't need an extra one. Mine is a 360 one though so maybe the One is better?

Valkyrie does look arcade-ish but at free it's worth checking out I guess. I think E:D might be more in my interest but I don't have enough time as it is for flight simming. Got a talking to by my wife over time in the hood so have been keeping a lower profile... :| And totally agree on Lucky's Tale. No interest at all but maybe the kids will enjoy that.

Either Rift or Vive, I'd be tempted to buy just the HMD itself with no other controllers, packages, cases, etc. My DK2 has only seen its box once since I bought it but I don't want to throw it away if I decide to sell it. The Rift box will be the same way. But you take what you can get. I'm not waiting months and months for HTC and Oculus to slim their packages down. :D
