I have been working on the throttle levers and have eventually sorted through the maze of wiring that is squeezed inside the first picture was my first attempt the second picture is where I am at now with just those last few wires to connect up. All the switches even though their basic task is an on\off command they are all wired to on\on I presume that is to keep the aircraft system informed of the switch position rather than the system having to presume that the switch is off because without the off signal the switch could be on and failed and the aircraft system would not know..

Just purchased a new HOTAS system and chose the Saitek X52 Pro
Sure The X55 and Thrustmaster are far better quality but these 2 have a lot of switches that are hard to use when you can't see them
Having VR goggles means its best having everything within reach of where your hand already is on joystick and throttle
Star Citizen convinced Saitek to build some custom hardware for them but its not much use for VR
Perhaps in a couple of years HOTAS for VR will be available

I have 14 different switch functions on the throttle and there is also a rotary wheel that works then there is obviously the throttle control flaps and also the wing sweep lever that can be used for anything it is switched and will have a potentiometer attached. I will also have 17 switches on the joystick and to be honest I think I will have it all on remembering many more switch functions that that. I am sure there will be a see through function available on most headsets at some stage. one thing I have found that adds to the emersion is the positioning of the controls it makes it much more immersive if they are roughly in the right place.

With some practice you should be able to use the device by touch alone unless you always fly an FS plane with the same controls as what you physically have
When Leap Motion works properly after CV1 or Vive is released maybe you can use the controls in the virtual plane as an alternative to the physical controls

I think there will always be a need for an actual throttle and Joystick\Yoke but the rest I am sure will eventually be controlled from VR.

I love my HOTAS but I'm hoping eventually some kind of haptic gloves will let us turn dials and flick switches!

Haptic gloves in combination with a physical Joystick/yoke might be something
The sky is the limit for new ideas and products in the next few years

Well starting to get there after many hours of head scratching, crying and throwing the odd tantrum I finally completed wiring the existing controls everything works except one three way switch and that is because I wired it incorrectly so I need to revisit it and rewire it. My next task is to install two potentiometers one on the flap switch so I will have a choice of a slide control or a three way switch control and one fitted on the wing sweep lever which can be used for anything.

Notice the Stanley Knife blade that was just in case the wiring won and I decided to end it all.
