OVERLOAD: Descent + VR = WOW!

Postby Derek Speare » Fri Mar 11, 2016 7:26 pm

Some here may have enjoyed Descent way back in the 90's. I did, and it was tons of fun! OVERLOAD is Descent reincarnated, VR support to boot. It even has really good controller support, and recognized my boxes, sticks and pedals. I use Oculus runtimes 0800. It ran without issue. For a pre-alpha, it's really quite good already.

The video below is my first time playing it with VR. Note, too, that you really want to make sure you have no frame rate issues...all the spinning and whirling can make even the most stout a bit loopy. I also backed their Kickstarter, and they hit their funding goals today.

I backed it and am very excited that it funded! Hopefully by the time they ship I'll have some time to play games ;)

It looked iffy coming down to two hours before the cutoff, but I was optimistic. There was a surge at the end and they did it. So many great games and so little time to enjoy them! :?

So I joined up here to ask a question about graphics cards, and I find this!

I'm a long-time member of the Descent community, a developer with the DXX-Rebirth project (a source port for Descent), and a backer of Overload. I think it's AWESOME that you fellas backed! :) Do any of y'all still play Descent?

That's awesome! I haven't played Descent in a while but I've seen your project many times over the years (on HappyPenguin and such) and played a little of it. Thank you for the great software :)

@AFP - Decent is on the top games to have ever been made, in my opinion! But no, I haven't played it in eons. Overload has captured the Descent "Vibe" so well. And it's such a perfect fit for VR. I'm looking forward to it coming out. I got a bit nervous at the end thinking they might not make it, but there was a surge and over the top they went. It'll sure be a blast with the new Oculus. Good to see another "old head" here who's been gaming for a long time :)
