X-Plane Questions

Greetings!

I am considering getting X-Plane...only for the reason that Dan gives us VR with it :) Since FSX/P3d and DCS have spoiled, I'm hesitant to get something new, I am curious about how the graphics and performance is with X-Plane. How are the graphics? Tony says the birds fly nicely, so that's a good thing. I read on the developer's site that they have a generous amount of stock planes as well.

I'd like to know how the cockpits look in these planes in general, and specifically, I'd like to know if the F-22 has a collimated (3d) hud. Any information is appreciated!

Hi Derek , no to the Hud with the stock F22 :( I bought the X-Trident Panavia Tornado which has a superb Hud. Works with infinity eyepoint and is a joy to fly.
Found this site if you haven't seen it already ? = http://www.flyrealhuds.com/

Thx, Tony - That's what I was expecting :( All of the good FSX/P3d planes have a collimated HUD, and it's just impossible to use anything else with VR. DCS, of course, has it. Last question: Does Flyinside work with the demo of Xplane?

They also have the F18 here:

It does have a proper hud. Oh, and are there converting programs which will convert FSX planes for use with x-plane?

I've just emailed Dan regarding the demo working with Flyinside and will let you know.

There is no easy way to convert planes from fsx to x-plane sadly. In the old version's you could but not now unless you know and understand 3d coding ?

Cheers, Tony - FI does work with the XP demo. I just tested it :) It's good, but things are wonky to a degree. If I change the location there's water everywhere. Odd.

That is strange ? Can you take a screenshot of your rendering/settings page and post it here for me mate?

I would, but I am really thinking the water everywhere is because I am running the demo   I really like XP! I didn't think I would. Dan's implementation for FI is nothing short of genius, and XP really comes alive using it with VR.

The only things I dont like are the ancient GUI and the blocky graphics in some areas. The flying and immersion is much better than FSX...it feels much more "alive" than FSX ever has. I will get the full thing. Having a demo helped to close this one for me.

Loads of fantastic photo scenery and better mesh available at no extra cost Derek. Outside the demo area is all water ;-) The only thing really lacking for me is the buildings etc. they look fairly crap at low level (where I spend most of my flying time). If you enjoy helicopters then x-plane is head and shoulders above anything else as far as flight dynamics goes. The Dreamfoil helicopter add ons are excellent. They leave the dcs Heli modules for dust.
