Enhance the experience? graphics / addons

Postby Jorgensen » Mon Oct 26, 2015 3:26 pm

hi

i have just came back to fsx and would like to hear has happend since :-)

after have been away from the flightsim for some years, i bought fsx:se some time ago, and just purchased flyinside.
i wonder what graphic enhancements and addons are nice or needed to have :-)
and do they work with fsx:se, windows 10, oculus and flyinside (or are they to demanding?)

THE OBJECTIVE
just some casual flying now and then (family man and fulltime job), with some nice graphics and ai life.
i liked radar contact, but i also remember it being a bit complicated (and the ui somehow outdated).

now i will install flyinside and have a look :-)

please feel free to comment.

I think Dan's efforts with FlyInside will bring many more back to FSX, as long in the tooth as it is. I have mostly military add-on planes and some freebie scenery. I also have the puffy clouds program for FSX and P3D. FSUIPC is worth it if you want to enhance your controller functions. Robert sold me on it :)

There's a ton of good stuff out there now for FSX :)

first i use p3d,
for me this in combination with some ORBX stuff and REX especialy if you are a bush flyer (flying very low), P3D Clouds throw Shadows
the Terrain also , this is the best we can have visualy today with this ageing engine.
If you are into big airliners (flying mostly very high), then only REX with some HD photo scenery is enough.

best regards

well after installing pmdg 737ngx i get some pour performance (even without using oculus rift) and low fps.

so i guess i'll have to see if i somehow can optimize fsx, with only this addon installed :-/

but if i succeed i'll see if i can get an update for my rex.
i have the old rex2.0, before there where all those different addons.

@nedo
i guess you refer to REX Texture Direct?

Hi nedo

I ask because I've seen the 50% offer :-)

But I simply can't understand the difference between the different products.

Can any help?
- REX 4 Texture Direct
- Texture Direct/Soft Clouds
- REX Soft Clouds
- REX Essential+
- REX Essential+ w/OverDrive

Thanks

They really need a nice product comparison table don't they? I think it's something like this:

Texture Direct: Replaces textures for sky, sun, water, cloud and airport runway/taxiway/ramp textures, markings and signs.

Soft Clouds: Just improves the clouds modelling. I guess it's different from Texture Direct as you can buy the two together?

Rex Essential+: Additional textures, animations etc (as per Texture Direct I think, possibly also including soft clouds as well?) You can save and share texture 'themes' (groups of textures) It also has a weather engine which will inject weather info into FSX. It has flight planning functions, some of which require a subscription to Flight Aware (I haven't really looked at this as it's a bit too much like my day job!)

and Overdrive, is, I think just additional Higher Res textures for the above?

Hope that helps

yes all this REX stuff is confusing, but what i know so far is,
REX 4 Texture Direct is the latest, thats why the Nr. 4
Softclouds came before but thats just a few new clouds (volumetric) where REX 4 can use them
for creating weather themes and so on.
REX Essentials/Overdrive is older, but it have same things as REX 4 and in addition
some kind of weather engine?
But they also sell Weather architect, thats something to create your own kind of weather.

I use ASN for real time weather, thats for me enough, but i wait for Enviroment Force from REX,
now thats sounds cool:
"Environment Force gives the user complete control over key elements of their flight environment while the flight simulator is running... in real-time!"
Cloud Coloring, Cloud Transparency, change everthing in realtime while flying :-)
