The nice thing about DCS for us pilots is to simply compare the FlyInside/FSX/P3D experience with that in DCS - FPS, smoothness, shadows, clarity,...
For me, the 3D experience is terrific - not much for weapons, but I like to fly with the other AI aircraft - haven't found a way to do formation training yet - though it's probably there. If you fly a mission and get shot down, the rest of the experience watching from outside the other aircraft is simply amazing - looking out the back of a fighter that is getting shot at or watching a Hellfire missile zoom along is - WOW!
The Xpadder program sure comes in handy in providing a lot of buttons for use from a joystick HOTAS so that you don't need to access a keyboard.
Try it (make sure you get the openbeta version) for runtimes 0.7 and 0.8
